Will Call Sniffie Circle participant checking in! I am rather hesitant about this scent; honey is my nemesis and screws up everything that it's in for me. I do love plum, so here goes... In the decant, I smell honey (very light) and something woody(?). Wet, hello fruitiness! Big, juicy and ripe fruit, red in color, dripping off your chin as you take a bite. As the fruit dissipates, I am reminded of The Orchard (plum, roses, chocolate and wood; go figure). Dry, I still get the woody scent, with honey. I recognize rose from other blends (not like Rose Red, more like the subtle rose in Mictecacihuatl. And that's where this stays for me; rose and honey, reminding me of a medicine I took as a child. It still amazes me (after six-plus years)the journey a scent can take through drying stages. While this does not play well with my skin, the depth and transformation this scent makes me glad I to try it. Thanks, Suedonym!

Another of Suedonym's Will Call sniffie circle participants checking in! I am thrilled to get to try this! I have no preconceived notions; I'm not familiar with tamarind, am very picky on my patchouli, am fond of golden amber, tonka bean I'm hoping to be better than tonka and fig is hit or miss. Sniffing the decant, I get a resiny aroma: thick, a tad smoky (?). On the skin: sweet, sticky fruit (reminds me of peach without being peachy, if that makes sense; when you bite into a really ripe peach, breaking the skin, the juice running onto your hands and down your arm, making them sticky. Like that. Probably the fig, which I only eat dried ). It's difficult to pick out on one component; they blend together seamlessly. I am still getting a very resinous wafting. It takes me to an ancient temple, like Angkor Wat, surrounded with strangler figs choking the the stones. Overgrown, monks chanting, incense billowing, voices resonating towards the heavens. I would really like this as an atmospheric spray. I may hunt down a decant strictly for sniffing purposes. Very evocative (which is how I like my scents). -
SNOW WHITE BATH OIL A chilly, bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers. Shea oil, olive oil, apricot kernel oil, fractionated coconut oil, rosehip seed, evening primrose oil, vitamin E, isopropyl myristate, glycereth-7-cocoate (derived from coconut), oleth 3, and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume blends. I have been eagerly stalking Ms White's arrival, as I was very excited to see this available this Yule season. And of course, I am not disappointed. Snow White Bath Oil has the same rich, luxurious texture as Snake Oil Bath Oil. Such an innocent scent, pure and not yet corrupted by the realities of life. My favorite way to use bath oils is as an after-shower moisturizer, and Snow White leaves my skin soft; no need for additional skin lotion or cream. And ten hours later, I can still smell it on my skin, gently wafting. It's very cold in Florida today; the high was 54 and it's going to freeze tonight, making it feel like the holiday season. Snow White Bath oil is the perfect accompaniment, giving a slight chill to my personal atmosphere. Very thankful for its release, and can't wait to experiment with layering. Thanks for a wonderful Yule gift! And yes, I do plan on stocking up, as Snow White is perfect for any season.

I vote it's the orchid. Orchid goes wonky and "perfumey" on me. Honey is not my friend either; it's either too cloying or smells post-coitus on me Snake oil is mostly Siberian musk, I think. Twisted Oak doesn't list any musk; maybe it's the oak (or teak in the other blends)? Maybe the moss; moss and oakmoss are pretty traditional scents in commercial perfume/cologne. Maybe that's what gives you the cologne vibe. Moss is also an ingredient in chypre ( read here) which would give you the cologney scent recognition. Hehe, a thousand users, a thousand different chemistries! Good luck with your search!

I can never find a charcoal that burns properly. Or geranium oil. Are you OK with "special deliveries"? *waggles eyebrows* Sure! At work would be best, that way everyone could share in the humility, lol What are some things you are OK with receiving gently used or homemade, and some things you absolutely do not want if they are gently used or homemade? Really, if you have put thought and made me something, I will use it. This is a skill that I do not have (no matter how many times I have tried) and anything is appreciated! Used is fine (books, clothing, nail polish, perfume); food and underpants, well...not so much =) Do you have any Fall or Halloween traditions? It used to be about decorating the house (inside and out), dressing up, having fun. I loaned it out and it never came back... Any favorite Bath & Body Works scents/products? Ooh the foaming soap! In kind of neutral scents (I don't like my scents to overtake my perfume, and I find some of their scents are scent and heavy). Witchee, will you be gone from your normal mailing address at any point during the round? Nope, gonna be here! Are you a Disney fan or does even thinking about Disney make your head hurt? I'm not picky on colors, but tend to lean towards neutrals with a bit of blue and green thrown in. Way buried in my etsy wish list are some examples of stuff I like (page 11). I also like a muted purple/pink swirled colors. Yes, I love pottery. Do you have a forum buddy? Someone who knows you and/or your tastes well enough to answer questions on your behalf? yes...Riahannon (she is not on every day but eventually she will answer). TearsofAmbrosia also(but I don't think she has been on the forum in a very long time) Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cider, or none of the above? I drink all of these at different times =) Gum, hard candy, soft candy, or none of the above? Not too much gum, I like hard candy (like sour balls or fruit flavored), soft candy of the dark chocolate variety! Wine, Beer, Rum, Bourbon... the booze scents
samarablackcat replied to spark's topic in Recommendations
Prospero from the Poes: a rich Sangiovese vintage swirled through opulent amber, rich plum, champaca flower, and arrogant white musk. My favorite is Makhanitis, though! -
I think it's 2007 due to the tag (I don't think 06 had tags but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!).

Wet, I get rose geranium and lemon. As it dries my mind turns to verbena. There is something underneath...sharp, medicinal, but not in a bad way. That part of the scent stays close to my skin. It's not a loud, verbose scent, like you'd expect from a Leo, but bright, reminiscent of sunshine...warming, lazy, mellow, lying in the shade, cooled by a gentle zephyr. The verbena is tempered with something a tad sweet and savory; it's making my mouth water for a big glass of iced tea, sweat droplets covering the glass. I haven't used this for intention yet, but I can tell you that it is a very uplifting, stimulating scent. It has already encouraged my mind to function at a higher level. Thoughts come more readily and I am able to communicate them swifter and more effectively. I can't grasp the ideas quickly enough as they take flight in my mind. My fingers can't type fast enough to keep up with them. I can find anything that has been missing in my home readily. My mind is focused, ready to take on any task. It doesn't keep the verbena stage...it mellows out to a soft, close-to-the-skin, comfortable second skin scent.

I received two bottles of Tattered Lace from DD at the same time and the fill is different on both. One is full into the neck, and the other is to the top of the shoulder. My Red Lace came the same way...two bottles, bought at the same time, different fill levels. Aren't these all filled by the lab? And filled by hand? None of them are going to be exact. All usually hold more than 5mls. I bought a bottle of oil sold as 5ml, and I thought it would be a full bottle. It had approximately two decants missing, thus 5mls, going on the assumption that a bottle hold 7 mls. I also have bottles where the label sits very low, closer to the bottom of the bottle, so to say the level is TOL would be correct, but not accurate. In those cases the fill would be more likely be minus a decant. Or more. And the only time I can honestly say that I've gotten a "full" bottle (way up into the neck) has been with Chaos Theories. But when I read "top of the label" my mind interprets it as "minus one decant".

Benevolent Triple Conjunction
samarablackcat replied to mooncityminx's topic in Twilight Alchemy Lab
I'm not very good (even after all these years) at describing scent. Yes, I can pick the scent apart and tell you I smell the rose, ginger and light musk with a pinch of lavender thrown in. Something bright, a warming sun on a shadowy day. But how this makes me feel is like a Disney heroine, with all the birds flittering around whistling their merry tunes and the little animals gathering around, like this. -
Black Lace was originally released in November 07 as a thirteenth anniversary for Dark Delicacies. The label is blue-grey-ish. original It was re-released in November 09. The label image is the same, but the color is more teal. Out of this resurrection, there is a batch variation that people call "the apple version"; it did not smell the same (to me) and I wondered if mine had been mislabled. 2009, although this label appears more grey, my bottle is more teal. Thanks to Miss Twilight's flickr for images. I think there is a thread with more details...I hope this helps until my scramble brain can find it!

I really am enamored with this...it is as if Antikythera Mechanism (teak & bourbon vanilla), Schwarzer Mond (patchouli and opopanax) and Slaugh (saparilla) had a throw down (or a big sloppy orgy) and this was its residual. Resinous and rich, well blended...the aspect of the judgement and the potentiality of rebirth. The clove lies close to my skin. There is something in this that reminds me of Temple Of The Horned God...dark, mysterious, hiding in shadow but full of life. Perfect for days when my mood leans towards duality.
-
Passionate Shepherd...heather, clover and Irish moss...aye, tis a fine time o' year!

Midwinter's Eve, Yule A melancholy, deep scent, poignant and brimming with nostalgia. The perfume of sugared plums over a breeze of winter flowers. Released in 03, 04, 05, 07 and 10 HTH!
-
Wet, this starts off like cherries or almonds (I tend to get them confused), but now I can determine that this is almond. I get spice, too, cinnamon-like, but not quite. And then the gentle waft of orange. Not the orange that screams sharp, but a gentle, true-to-life orange, like when the trees are full of oranges, ripe and ready for picking. I'm not a fan of orange, but this is very nice. And the spice? Clove...in fact this smells like an orange with whole cloves, like a pomander. It's very reminiscent of BPTP's A Ghost of Christmas Past atmo spray. Close to the skin she stays, and although this is something I never would have tried if I had a description, I would recommend this as a autumnal or winter scent, and I am very glad to have tried this. I would love a partial bottle for when I need a comfort scent.

Oh wow! The Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse label is right up my alley! Thanks stellans!

An Introduction to the Stash Manager
samarablackcat commented on ipb's blog entry in Forum Updates and News
I was just hunting down my bottle list yesterday; I don't have it linked in my signature anymore, and I am thrilled to see this feature! It's also a great incentive for those (like me) who don't write many reviews to get off their duffs and do so. And I think the Swapmatcher is full of win. I predict it will be highly popular. Thanks for all your hard work and making things accessible here, my home away from home. -
I was most delighted to see The Waltz of The Snowflakes. As a child, a snowflake was my role in my ballet class' production of The Nutcracker. Practice, practice, practice, and then, on the night of the performance, everything on stage was transformed into a magical winter wonderland...snow falling, silver and white reflecting the spotlights. I think it's one reason I love winter; the memory of that magical night has lasted me over fifty years. In the decant, I smell butter...not a good omen for me, as buttery scents do not play well on my skin. As this light-colored oil lies on my skin, all I get is a soft mint, with a whisper of pine, and the buttery aroma dissipates. As it dries, it becomes all pine. And then, something wonderful happens. This turns into a softer vanilla with a bit of mint, that gives me the impression of innocence. The mint and pine go to the background; it's as if they are an afterthought. I can see the comparisons to Snow White as this point (I never tried Snowblind) and something reminds me Tiki Princess as well, though that sharpness is lacking in this scent. The vanilla in this is something I can wear and never overtakes the scent (most vanilla makes me ill and I have to wash it off immediately). It does take me back to days of innocence; a light, feminine scent, exuberant and hopeful. Not a scent I would normally wear, but this will be falling into heavy rotation, particularly on days when I need a reminder of the playfulness of youth.

I know I have tried this before, as this smells familiar. But I don't remember liking Fae so much. The imp I am testing is very old (the flying phoenix on its label), and I can't stop smelling this. I get no peach, heliotrope, bergamot or oakmoss. Just white musk, but very airy and ethereal. A summery scent, like skin warmed by the sun. This will provide me with warmth in the throes of cold, wintry days. Uplifting and a reminder of sunlight days to come. Androgynous and bottle worthy.

Is the third a Vintage label and amber bottle? original Pink Phoenix Pink Phoenix was available at the Trunk Show on November 29, 2009 Trunk Show list That is probably the difference in the bottles. My Google-fu is fail for pictures of the Vintage

Wet, I get the saltiness from Calico Jack, but that's where the similarity ends. I feel as if I am standing on the edge of a lake, cattails swaying in the breeze and little fishes are swimming in the shallows (see them there?) A brackish water, this one. Silt flowing through your toes as you wade to shore. As this dries, more of balsam peeks out (to my nose this always smells like weeds, when the green stains your hands). Lots of weeds and green things growing. When totally dried, there is a whisper of soft sandalwood, giving this a resiny feel without being harsh. I am pleased to have the opportunity to try this; it's very evocative of its description, as it keeps calling me back.

It sounds like it; here's the description of 05: Thoroughly revisited. This year's Hearth is warmer, sweeter, and more traditionally comforting. This is the scent of candied chestnuts, buttered, covered in brown sugar and honey, alongside the scent of cedar smoke and soft pine. 04' s description: Sweet pipe tobacco, cherry wood, the warm, worn leather of an easy chair and a pleasant, subtle waft of fireplace smoke I was looking for pics of the labels, but i can't find any, only Hearth V2 proto. And now I can't turn off the italics!

#203 Well, not sure about this one. vanilla is not my favorite note, but I got caught up in the Chaos! I originally thought this was vanilla and lily, you know how they tend to go soapy? but now I am not so sure. Smells like a subtle berry, sprinkled with sugar and vanilla.
