freak show starts out with a heavy hit of cocoa and fruit in the vial. mmmm. very yummy!! on my skin the lemon stands out from the rest of the crowd- rather unusual, i tend to suck citrus up. for a few minutes the lemon and cocoa duke it out, and i smell like i'm washing a mug i had hot chocolate in with lemon dish soap. odd, but not unpleasent. lemon wins, and chocolate fades away...but it's replaced by tonka and i smell like sweet, lemony hay. it's a bit soapy, too, tho that's probably the lemon. overall...well, i'm really pleased to have an imp of this. i think it's just the right amount...i won't wear it a lot, but when the mood strikes...

let's see how to describe this one...incense and candy! yeah, that about sums it up for me...mostly incense in the imp, then the candy joins in on my skin. i can see how this would be a nice scent, but it doesn't work for me or on me.

i got this as a generous freebie from the lab, and had no idea what notes were in it. i tried it on and found it very light and clean (yes, i could see soapy, but only mildly so on me), slightly floral and green, as if i were smelling an entire plant in bloom. then i read the description and wondered "did i get the same thing??" dust- yes, i could smell dust. but no wine, or heavier scents. it's pretty, but not really me.

i get a fairly true sweet pea scent from aeval. it's lovely and light and springy. i have, however, discovered that i just don't reach for the lovely light springy florals- even in spring. nothing against aeval, tho, it's really VERY pretty!

ok, i LOVE shill. i love butter, too, so i guess that's not such a surprise? i do get a little bit of sweetness from shill, too, but mostly lovely butter. the only downside is that it fades *really* fast. like, gone in 30 min, not even a hint left behind. i love shill enough that i'm actually considering a scent locket, something i've been weirdly reluctant about up til now. butter.

i ordered two bottles of midway. having smelled it at the nyc gathering, i knew i was going to looooove it! i've never ordered two bottles of the same thing before. let this be a lesson to me to *try things on*! midway starts out plasticy, then goes candy sweet (yum!), then gets a weird, dusty, play-dough vanilla scent that i also got from snow white. and then it disappears, all within an hour. so sad. but i'm keeping one bottle, just in case

baghdad smelled very dry in the imp. woody dry. mostly cedar to my nose...and a little bit of spice. it evokes sand and an ancient desert. on my skin it starts smelling like a man's scent (this seems to happen to me a lot, so maybe my nose is off! or i'm weird ). and then the masculine bit goes away and it smells like soap. woody soap. sigh. so many of these desert themed ones have been going wrong on me lately, and it makes me so sad! good thing i still have a few to cling to

eden is mega, mega green on me. nose tinglingly green. there's coconut there, too, and it's lovely, but overall eden is just TOO green for me...it hurts my nose to smell it if my skin weren't playing up the green, tho, this would be LOVELY!

from the chaos run amuck circle!! LXXXVII- faintly spicy, creamy, and woody. reminds me of a lady's dressing table with several perfumes, powders, and cosmetics on it. you know, the kind of dressing table where you sit down...old fashioned. pretty, tho. as it dries the spices come out. Last reviewed by paperdoll. XVII- this is a slightly toned down lemon to my nose- but toned down by what? tonka, maybe? i love the lemon/citrus blends in theory, but they never seem to mesh well with my skin. Last reviewed by yellowrose. XLVIII- mmm, sandalwood. and florals. my goodness, my nose is weak at individual florals! LOL! something light, and white. mostly i get sandalwood from this. i love sandalwood. on me this is very light, tho, i have to put my nose right up to it to get a good "fix" on the scent. i love it, tho! Last reviewed by Gin. CLXXX- i am IN LOVE with this scent. it's very full, and looks new, so i'm thinking noiroseleen might have added it to the circle? it's fruity, but doesn't do any of that icky fruit stuff that many blends do. it's tropical fruit, perfect for summer!!! coconut, for sure, also some pineapple, i think? yes, maybe a touch of pine, too, to keep the tropical-ness in check. this is just melding perfectly into my skin and all i want to do is sniff my shoulder. i actually can't think of another bpal that has matched my skin so well. as it dries it becomes woodier, palm maybe? it bears some resemblence to manila, but without the incense. kind of reminds me of summer camp in santa ynez. so glad i got to try it!

i think i did mention it...right when you were going "how OLD are you???" thanks, tho!

i was very excited to get my pink moon!! in the bottle: it does smell pink! and sweet! there's a kind of...earthy... undertone, but that probably won't dominate... on: my, this is an assertive one! and what's that kind of sweaty scent? dry: it does smell pink, and kind of strawberryish, but unfortunatly, it also smells of a long workout! must swap this one
-
after i heard about the buttery goodness of this lunacy blend, i had to try it. silvertree was kind enough to swap with me for a decant! in the vial it certainly is sweet and buttery! but on it morphs into this hyper floral, very strong blend that overpowers my nose and kind of gives me a headache something in here just doesn't agree w/my chemistry!

in the vial i loooove this. it's so...silk roadish. it makes me think of a trip i'd really like to take some day. spices and dust and silks and resins. on: hmmm. kind of soapy. and masculine. weird. 10 min later: is my wrist all red? goodness! 30 min later: soapiness is fading, but i've got a big red swath of skin, and it has a strong perfumey scent. overall...i can't wear this. i'll probably keep it for after the pregnancy tho, and see if it can play nicely then.

mmm, bpal and pregnancy...close to my heart! i'm 17 weeks pg right now and for the first 12 weeks i couldn't stand to wear bpal (or any perfume) everything turned my stomach (tho beth suggested embalming fluid yesterday, and it probably would have gone over pretty well). so, i just didn't wear perfume. after the first trimester i slowly started feeling scent was OK again, but wasn't moved to wear it. yesterday i attended the ny/nj bpal gathering, and my lingering resistance to smellies faded i've put bpal on twice today already (another blend beth said was ok for pg- as others have mentioned, she did say to stay away from pain! and i've not worn spooky, either, for mint reasons). i'll totally try spooky in my hair, tho!!
-
i don't know if i even wore perfume bad bpaler! in retrospect, i'd probably go for something softly spiced...maybe queen of sheba? of course, it was *snowing* here, so that probably colors my thoughts a bit...in warmer weather i'd go for something sharper, to cut the heat. i loooove the idea of a miriam scent! that would be wonderful! and i, um, put a lemon on my seder plate this year. i didn't have an orange am the only one who LOVES matzoh with butter? i could eat that stuff all day...

i liked the sound of all the notes in this, with the possible exception of the pepper. luckily, i didn't really detect the pepper at all. unluckily, the rest of this just didn't smell quite right on me. something about it was mildly headache inducing, and left me feeling generally unwell very sad, as white rabbit had so much promise! luckily it is off to a home where it will be well loved.

well, after reading the inital reviews here, i was chomping at the bit to try dorian! in the vial it smelled nice- i could smell the tea, the vanilla, and a bit of lemon. this is going to be perfect! on: errrr....not so much. the lemon disappeared (why can't citrus stick around on me? i love it so!), the vanilla got a bit stronger, the tea left and the musk came out. i like the scent, but it smells very, very masculine on me, and frankly, i'm a girly girl. dorian and i just clash. however, all was not lost! as part of my ongoing quest to get my husband wearing bpal, i tried some on him. it smelled pretty good, and he rated it as his favorite bpal of the 10 or so he's tried. we'll keep the imp and see how it goes

i love roses and was very excited to try kurakulla! in the vial it smelled of sweet, candied roses. YUM! wet on the skin it was the same, with a touch of a fresh, watery note. about 15 min later my husband and i were in the car on our way to run some errands, and i noticed a kind of burning smell. hubby did too, and commented that the car smelled funny. we were slightly concerned. i sniffed my wrist for solace. holy crap, the burning smell was kurakulla! it smelled like burning hair i've never had a bpal scent go so horribly wrong, and since i loved the initial phase so much i was terribly disappointed. i'm going to keep my imp a while and see if aging it, or different days of the week make a difference. so weird.
-
yep, it's roses alright! there's a darker base to this, tho...i get a kind of smokey rose on the dry down. could be some kind of resin, i suppose! the empress is not just straight up roses, it's more complex and grounded. very nice!

i haven't had great luck with the foody bpal scents, and almost didn't order spooky. then i remembered how much i love the cocoa in velvet, and with a little prodding from gdogs, i ordered. i'm very glad i did! in the bottle i smell cookies and mint and cocoa. i don't think i'm really getting the coconut, but maybe a creamy edge? on my skin the cookies go away (a good thing, as they tend to turn plastic on me) and the mint and cocoa jump up, and the coconut gets stronger. after about 30 min the mint has faded and i have a sweet, slightly tropical, slightly cool scent. i love it!

having recently discovered that i like smelling like chocolate even tho i don't like eating it, i've been on the hunt for all bpal chocolate scents. after reading kali's reviews, i was most pleased to have her! in the bottle and wet she smells lovely. i try not to drool and contemplate rushing to the computer to place a big bottle order. the chocolate is only a hint, but it doesn't matter, this blend smells so good!! as kali dries, however, the extra goodness starts to fade. within half an hour all i smell is generic, floral perfume. all chocolate, wine and tobacco are gone i'm very, very sad about this- why, skin, why??
-
in the bottle i got a lilly scent- odd. on my skin, however, gardenia and jasmine took over, as they are wont to do. i like gardenia and jasmine, but i've been coming to the conclusion that i don't much care to smell like them most days. euphrosyne helped cement this decision. i'll probably keep the imp around for the rare times when i really want a heady, heavy floral, but i doubt it'll ever go into heavy rotation.
-
on first sniff i was *very* disappointed- almonds! tons of almonds! i already have bastet, queen of sheba, and dana o'shee. i don't need more almonds. i tried it out anyway. as i sat down at my computer i thought 'hmmm, whats that very floral scent? can't be me...', but i kept smelling it! i took a sniff at my wrist and it WAS me! the almonds had totally disappeared and been replaced by rose- a kind of powdery rose. eventually i got a touch of sandalwood out of seraglio, too, but the spices never did make an apperance. maybe next time, however...this is definilty one i'll wear again.

i wish i knew the age of my snake oil, but i got it in a swap, so no telling! in the vial it smells herbal and soapy- no sweetness, no vanilla. i'm sad about this, but bravely press on, knowing how bpal can morph on the skin. but no. on, it is herbal and soapy. patchouli, perhaps? it's not offensive, but it doesn't do anything for me, either. i tried layering it with a vanilla lotion, hoping to draw the vanilla out, but no dice. i may hang on to it for a while to see if it sweetens up. i may also try it on my husband.

sweet. very candy fruity sweet. definitly doesn't agree with my nose- i feel vaguely ill from how sweet it is- as if i've eaten too much candy. still, i could use some financial windfalls (heh), so i put some on my back. also hubby's. unfortunatly, the review ends there, as on my back i couldn't smell it. which was good, but maybe bad, since no money came my way. i'll have to try it again and put it on my wrists or something to see if i can get some benifit from the magic, but as a perfume it doesn't do it for me.
