Do you like s'mores and s'mores-flavored things? Not really. I prefer chocolate and graham crackers solo (or mixed with other things besides marshmallows) and I’m super picky about my marshmallow eating. I only like them melted (like in rice krispies treats) or burnt. My hubby’s old band used to play regularly at an event called marshmallows and beer and I spent 8 years in girl scouts as a child, so I’ve had plenty of time to develop a very exacting regimen for marshmallow toasting. I like to set it on fire, let it burn for a bit (time dependent on brand of marshmallow and strength of flame), blow out the flames, pull off and devour the black husk, and then stick it back in the fire to burn the next layer.

What's the neatest freebie you've gotten? It can be cool or thoughtful or just totally unexpected, and not limited to BPALdom. Oh goodness, there have been so many. I have to say that the first time I made a lab order, I was shocked by the frimps. I knew they would send samples, but I figured I’d get 1 or 2 at the most. I wasn’t expecting the sheer generosity. My first order was full of scents that didn’t quite work for me. I probably never would have tried again if I hadn’t felt so touched by the warmth that I felt when I got that package.

Would you enjoy receiving cute but useful items like colorful kitchen utensils/gadgets, or bento supplies? (boxes, chopsticks, accessories, etc?) What about things like spice mixes (homemade, or Penzey's for example)

Wow, that’s a jam packed question. Ok, one at a time:

Cute but useful kitchen stuff: I don’t really do “cute” and I’ve got a pretty crazy amount of kitchen utensils already. That said, I do love cooking, so I always have a few random things that I want (check my etsy favorites or pinterest consumption board). What I could really use right now, though, are kitchen linens - napkins, dish towels, that sort of thing. Similarly, I'm also looking for scrub brushes or towels that can replace my sponges.

Bento supplies: Not really. Bentos are too much work for me, and I’ve got more than enough chopsticks.

Spice Mixes: If you’ve got a secret, go-to blend - sure. Otherwise, I got an amazing collection of spices from the wonderful GreenWoodTree in a different swap a while back, so I’m pretty full up.

Do you like cute, seasonal or fluffy PJ bottoms? Like they sell at Target, Old Navy (they have had cute Halloween ones!) If so, what size do you wear? I don’t really shop at either place, but I do like draw string pajama pants. I prefer plain to cute. I’m generally an XL or XXL. I tend to err on the side of ordering a size smaller for most clothes if I'm in between size, but pjs I prefer a size up.

What kind of chocolate do you like? Nuts, no nuts, white, dark, etc? Dark chocolate = plain, milk chocolate = nuts and other flavors, white chocolate = gross. As far as flavors and mix-ins go, I’ll try pretty much anything. I’m not crazy about hot peppers, bacon, or gooey caramels (too sweet, salted caramel is great).

I live near a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Penzeys! What does your little heart desire from any or all of these places? I boycott Whole Foods, I’ve never been in Trader Joe’s (happy to try something, I just don’t know what they’ve got), and the Penzeys question is answered up above.

Are home made foods acceptable or does the idea of eating strange mailed food disturb you?

Not only acceptable, but preferable - strange mailed food FTW! :joy:

I just gave you $20 and sent you into a "has everything" store ala Walmart and told you that you have to come out having spent it all, and none of it on anything you need. What would you buy? Be as specific as possible!

I don’t shop at Walmart (seeing a pattern yet?), but at that type of store I would buy: nail polish, junk food, and hurricane disaster supplies (it’s more of a hobby/talisman against evil than a need, especially since I don’t even live in a hurricane prone state right now)

What kind of cuisines do you like? (I mentioned this in my ?aire but curious Amy witch may like)And, what are your favorite restaurants? I like food. I’ll pretty much eat (and love) any food except chain restaurants. Italian (Americanized and more authentic), Greek, Lebanese, Persian, Latin American (prefer South American and Caribbean to Central American, but I’m flexible), North African, Southern/Soul Food, Tex-Mex, Cajun, Creole, all seafood of any kind, Spanish, Portuguese, some classic British food (steak and kidney pie was a pre-vegetarian favorite), Russian/Eastern European (I like beets and all the varieties of pierogi), Indian, Asian (My knowledge of Asian cuisines is limited, but Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Korean are my favorites in that order. I also harbor a weakness for both take-out American style Chinese and family style Chinese bbq places. I don't like most Asian candy/dessert that I've been exposed to.). I’m not crazy about Ethiopian because I don’t like injera. I think I’ll stop there. Favorite restaurants is a list that would take me hours to write. Within walking distance of my house, I like Hoover’s, El Chilito (it's over-run by hipsters, but they make a pretty solid burrito), and Salty Sow.

I'm from Canada - is there anything specifically a witchee might like that is only available here? You know, I don’t really know enough about Canada to answer that question. I’d love to try anything you think I’d like.

what are your "fandoms" and would you like a t-shirt from TeeFury if an appropriate one came up? Um, I guess Star Trek and Firefly/Serenity would count as fandoms. I don’t really wear t-shirts with logos/words on them except for sports teams. I’m a big Saints fan, and I could use a t-shirt for game days.

Do you have an eReader and if so which one? Nope, I like to be able to smell my books.

Do you like candles, or tart burners, or something? If so, what's your favorite scent to burn? I don’t really do candles or tarts. The fragrances used in most of them are too likely to trigger an allergic reaction. The few I do like, I already have.

Marzipan? Yes, but in small quantities

Would you be interested in washable/reusable muslin “paper” towels (basically muslin squares hemmed around the edge)? Maybe in some sort of box to put on your kitchen or bathroom counter? Yes! Although, in terms of boxes, I'm really not a fan of country or cutesy or, god forbid, shabby chic.

Do you drink alcohol and if so, would you be OK with your witch sending you homemade infused vodka? Also, does your state allow alcohol to be shipped through the mail (for example, PA doesn't). I do drink alcohol (red wine, non-IPA beer, gin, rum, and the various forms of whiskey are my favorites). I don't drink vodka or tequila. Texas is... weird about alcohol. You can ship wine to Texas from out of state. I regularly get beer shipped here, so you can do that too. You can't ship liquor from out of state, but you can ship it in state (Spec's is probably the best choice for that). I'll be honest, though, and say that I'm not real concerned with liquor laws in this state. So, if you aren't either...

If you get me (or a fellow Aussie, if there are any playing this round) as a witch or witch's minion, would you like to try some Australian specialties, such as TimTams (delicious chocolately cookies), Caramello Koalas (koala shaped chocolates filled with gloopy caramel), Australian native spices or anything like that? I love regional specialties! TimTams and native spices sound interesting (yes, I know I said no spices, but I make exceptions for awesome). Gloopy caramel isn’t particularly appealing.

If your witch is a knitter, crocheter or sewer, is there a particular type of garment you would love to receive (hat, scarf, wrap, cowl, socks, fingerless gloves, arm warmers etc)? I’d love to receive your handiwork! Wraps, cowls, and fingerless gloves would probably be the best things for me off of that list.

Is there anyone else in your house (kids, pets, partner) that would really appreciate a small gift being included for them in the switchwitchy haul so they don't feel left out? My husband will end up getting to share in most things anyways, so no need for specific items for him. Brady likes to shove his nose into packages I’m opening, so he would probably appreciate getting a treat. That said, he’s already spoiled, so don’t feel obligated.

Since it's been mentioned several times, and I've also offered to nacho witch some, would you you like to receive wild rice and or maple syrup? I promise to include recipe ideas with the wild rice. Wild rice for sure! Maple syrup has me wavering. I generally don’t like it, but that may just be that I haven’t had “the good stuff”. Plus, my husband loves it and I’m constantly depriving him in favor of buying interesting honey or more cane syrup (*nomnom*)

I have 5 bushels of tomatoes sitting in the kitchen right now that are supposed to turn into red sauce tomorrow, so would anyone like a basic red sauce (spaghetti sauce) to make its way to them? YES! A huge batch of the tomatoes I canned to last me through the winter got messed up (grr apartment stove). I love tomatoes, and I could definitely use a supplement to my own supply.

Would you be interested in having a bat adopted in your name? Not at the top of my list, but they are pretty damn cute and I’m always pro-animal rescue

How would you feel about a taste of (insert witch location here) box? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Some of your favorite artists? Classic and modern? Huh, I am embarrassingly ill educated on art history. I googled “best artist” and went through a list of someone’s idea of history’s hundred best painters (very much eurocentric, btw). Turns out I’m a big fan of Spanish artists (I knew that, although I hesitate to say it because it makes most people think Picasso and I HATE Picasso) and Baroque painting (never would have guessed it since find Baroque architecture distasteful). Here’s a list of people who caught my eye: El Greco (love him), Velasquez (scenes more than portraits), Rembrandt (again, scenes more than portraits), Caravaggio, De Goya (when he’s not being disturbing), some Monet and Van Gogh but mostly for the physical texture of the paint on canvas, Gustave Courbet, some Klimt (especially his strong female figures, less so the stuff with random dots), Vermeer (scenes not portraits, I swear I don't hate portraits), Edward Hopper, Gerhard Richter was kind of ineresting, Georges de la Toure, and Artemisia Gentileschi. In general, I love photography and sculpture. I’m wild about interesting textures. I’ve got some more modern things that aren’t anything amazing but have caught my eye on both pinterest (scattered throughout but especially in Sanity Inducing, Livingroom, and Kitchen) and etsy. My husband and I also collect sketches and art from our favorite webcomic artists. We've got stuff from Aerie, Jeph Jacques, Randy Milholland, and Danielle Corsetto. I'd love to add work from Spike (of Templar, AZ) or the folks behind Oglaf. We mostly have sketches and original art rather than prints.

If you could have an image or certain subject painted for you on any type of "canvas" (on a box, on paper, on a canvas, and so on) - could you point your witch to some of these images? Um... not sure. I’m up for pretty much anything you think I’d like.

Is there a GC scent that's been on your list for ages but keeps falling off the bottom of your order because of the LEs? Miskatonic U. The notes sound AMAZING but the association with Lovecraft doesn’t thrill me. I always think about getting it and then leave it off at the last minute.

I've been getting into indie nail polish brands recently. What's your favorite indie brand of nail polish? Or what's your favorite mainstream brand of nail polish? Or are you not big on polish? Huge in to polish, but I have a seriously excessive Zoya collection (hooray for their trade in promotions!). Right now, the only polishes I’d really be interested in are some mattes - I’m dying to try some.

Stuffed things: yea or nay? Meh

New Question: mix-in-a-jar? How to you feel about cookie or cake or soup mixes that come in jars and you just add, like, an egg or water or what have you? Hmmm, usually I’d say no because pantry space is limited here and I like to cook from scratch. Right now, though, I’ve been avoiding the kitchen for emotional reasons. Some mixes might be a good way to ease me back into things. FYI, I don't own a microwave (not enough room in my tiny apartment), so please nothing that requires one.

Would you be interested in beer, wine, or other specialty beverages from your Witch's area? Yes! I don’t like IPAs and my father-in-law makes mead (therefore we have literal cases of the stuff and do not need more), but other than that, and my aforementioned hatred of vodka and tequila, anything goes.

Are there any crafts/skills you've wanted to learn but haven't gotten around to? And if so, would you be interested in supplies and tutorials? I am on the hunt for new hobbies. I like things that are a combo of practical and beautiful. Hobbies I’ve considered: weaving, knitting, quilting, basket making. I would try pretty much anything. If you think you can get me started, please do!!!

Who here would be happy to get a lil' sumthin sumthin from Adagio Teas? Sure. I’m not a tea fiend, but I do drink a lot of ice tea. Anything that would work well for that purpose is good for me. I also enjoy Earl Grey and English Breakfast.

Do you Ravelry? And if so, what's your handle over there? Would you be interested in gift patterns from your queue? Nope

I live near this very cool Retro store (retrodrygoods.com) (you can order online too) - are there things from it that would make you squee if your witch sent them? Not really my style.

Who likes Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses? No thanks. Love pumpkin, love spice, don’t really like Hershey’s kisses.

What does your kitchen look like? Colors/style? I grew up in a home filled with rich, saturated color. On the one hand, I always loved the vibrance of our house (Caribbean blue exterior! sunshine yellow kitchen! every door a different color! Murals in some of the bedrooms!). On the other hand, it can be a little bit mentally overwhelming. Since we move regularly, our home decor trends pretty neutral (grey, black, crisp white) so that it will blend with whatever randomness we find in the places we're renting. The kitchen is where I throw neutral out of the window. My appliances stay in the neutral theme (black, silver, NO WHITE cause there's usually a lot of white already in apartment kitchens and white appliances are a pain in the ass to keep clean), but everything else is a riot of yellow and blue. I’m inspired by the gorgeous yellow/blue tile found throughout the mediterranean and latin america (Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, etc.), and by the Caribbean blue and sunshine yellow of my childhood. On top of the crazy bright colors, we used our wedding as an excuse to make prints of some of my dad's (and one of my friend's) pictures of a few of our favorite foods (hello table “numbers”) so that we could frame them and put them on the wall. In my tiny apartment kitchen, I have all of the following up on the wall:

Crawfish

Wine

Burger

Texas BBQ

Tacos

Pork Roast

Shrimp Po'Boy

Mussels

Witchee, what are your favorite quotes? I’ve never really been able to pick any.

Put your iPod/MP3 player/what-have-you on random and list the first 10 songs it plays! Well, I actually don’t have one really. I’m strictly streaming radio these days. I have a Slacker subscription. I do have a “quickmix” station, this is what I got:

1. Te Solte la Rienda - Jose Alfredo Jimenez

2. Mercy Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye (vastly prefer Bill Withers)

3. Social Love I - The Gits

4. Talkin’ Bout a Revolution - Tracy Chapman (love her, not my favorite song)

5. Sway - Dean Martin

6. Here’s a Health to the Company - The Chieftains

7. Happy One-Step - Beausoleil

8. Air - Ben Folds Five

9. By Your Side - The Everybodyfields (LOVE THEM)

10. Ahora Que - Sonora Tropicana (disappointing song, but I do love the genre and the band)

Noticeable absences - 90s music (Pearl Jam, Primus, Toadies, Faith No More), Metal, Country, Bluegrass, Rap

What's one random thing you really like and one random thing you really dislike?

Like: The feeling of a slate being wiped clean - New Years, spring cleaning, the day after a (strong but not deadly) hurricane. That feeling that the world has reset and there’s a chance to start anew.

Dislike: Weeds, nuts, and berries in my savory food. I’m a recovering vegetarian, I believe in natural food, but good night leave that shit to the cavemen. Complex agricultural societies evolved so that we wouldn’t have to eat bitter “mixed greens” any longer. And cooked nuts in savory preparations? Gross. Peanut sauce, cashew chicken, pad thai, and the rest can be eaten by someone else. Don’t even get me started on people who throw fruit into non-fruit needing savory dishes. I love fruit, but the world has no place for sesame-peanut-mango sauce or whatever crazy crap they come up with next.

Are there any herbs that you haven't been able to lay hands on that I could send you? There's an herbal shop I really like here in NYC called Flower Power (flowerpower.net) that has quite a wide selection. Nothing specific. I’m always on the look out for things that will help boost my immune system or kill fleas.

If there are no "witchy" shops near you, is there anything I can pick up for you from Enchantments? No thank you

Hey Witchee! I want to send you a delivery. It could be cupcakes from a local bakery, it could be a singing hugging bear-a-gram, it could be a bouquet of flowers. But it will be something that you need to be there to receive.

a) Are you OK with "special deliveries"? *waggles eyebrows* Um, sure. Here’s the thing, though, I work 10am-6pm M-F plus a lot of nights/weekends during the fall. I also take the bus, so my commute can be pretty time intensive. All of which means that I’m not usually home during delivery hours. My husband works crazy shifts, but he is usually off during the day at least one day a week, so he usually accepts deliveries for us. So, yes, but only if you think my husband will be able to deal with it in my stead.

B..) Is the address in your questionnaire the best place to reach you for said deliveries? yes, I don’t accept deliveries at work. Work is for work, home is for personal business, never the twain shall meet.

c) If the delivery requires a phone number (as say, some florists do) would you be OK with that information being tracked down by your Witch or asked of you anonymously? That’s fine, but please specify that it’s for deliveries so that I can give you the hubby’s number.

What are some things you are OK with receiving gently used or homemade, and some things you absolutely do not want if they are gently used or homemade? To paraphrase my answer on a previous swap: unless you are gargling with your bath/body products and then spitting them back into the jar, I’m am fine with pretty much any level of usedness. I’m pretty cavalier about used stuff of all kinds. If you’re not embarrassed to send it, it’s ok with me.

And now a new question: I live near a Mast General Store (mastgeneralstore.com). It has lots of vintage-y toys, southern foods (jams, jellies, spices) and vintage candy. Is there anything I can get for you? Nothing specific caught my eye (so much stuff, so overwhelming!), but it seems like a neat store. I’d be happy to get something from there if you want.

Do you have any Fall or Halloween traditions? I hate fall. I know that’s tantamount to sacrilege around these parts, but it’s true. I like sunshine and heat and glorious humidity. Fall, to me, is the world’s slow death before the evil that is winter. If I could do away with those two seasons, I would. And I live in Texas, it’s not like I’m up north or something. I get sick every fall/winter. I have to work extra during this season for my current job. I think the weather is miserable. Just ICK to fall in general. I used to make a minor exception for Thanksgiving because it’s my mom’s favorite holiday. She doesn’t want to celebrate it without my brother, so now fall is pretty much an unbroken wasteland of unpleasantness for me. :rant2: Just be thankful the question wasn’t about winter ::shudder::

Ninjas or Pirates? Pirates, no contest. Especially bad ass lady pirates.

I have an extra room spray and 2 extra bath oils (one Cephalopod, one Exhibit Hall Fatigue) from Dragon*Con - would anybody like a decant? I’m definitely up for trying them, but they’re not top of my list so if you don’t have much, best save them for someone else.

Witchee, would you like it if I made you a "mix tape" of songs that I think you might like? And if so, would you prefer mp3 or CD format? Sure! mp3 please

I know it is totally the wrong season (for most of us), but do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you like to grow? I suck at gardening. I have one plant currently that has survived my ministrations. I’ve decided to stop while I’m ahead.

I'm about to be near a Lush store next week, is there anything you might like from there? I stopped buying from there a while back. Most of their stuff that I liked (Ocean Salt, H’suan Wen Hua) has just too many chemicals for me to feel comfortable. I’d be up for some random bubble bars or bath bombs, though. I’m pretty desperate for a decent bubble bath these days - chemicals be damned. I used to like their crazy green, salt filled bomb that smelled like dirt and pine. I also like avobath, and that one with the roses. Bubble bar wise I liked the citrus one with the insane amount of glitter, the one with rose petals, the white minty one, and the coffee one that was supposed to be manly. Honestly, it’s been years since I bought from them, so I’m not even sure what they have these days.

Songs that you keep meaning to buy but never get round to it? Nope, I buy whole albums, streaming radio subscriptions, and concert tickets. No single songs.

Movies that you love but forgot to put in your questionaire? Not really.

Any favorite Bath & Body Works scents/products? Don’t buy from them, so no idea.

Haus of Gloi is offering custom perfumes - would you like one? What would your ideal blend be? No non-bpal perfume, please.

Any Bath, Body or nutritional type items you would love to try from a Natural and Organic food store (similar to Whole Foods) that you don't buy because they are a bit too pricey? I’ve got a great co-op here, so not really. The one thing I would be interested in is shampoo/conditioner. I’m bored with what I’ve been buying around here lately, and I’m not sure what to try next. Recent brands I’ve purchased = Aubrey, Avalon, Nature’s Gate. Time for something new! No SLS or ‘cones please. I prefer no parabens as well.

OK, so those of you who said you wouldn't mind receiving (sneakily packaged!) beer or wine: Tell me of your taste preferences. Dry/sweet? Red/white? Lager/ale/porter/stout? Fruit? Spice? Hops? Sour (brettanomyces, etc)? Wine: dry, red, not too acidic. I also like good sherry. Beer: I like the extremes - incredibly light wits/hefeweizens or dark, creamy stouts. I dislike aggressively hoppy beers. Can’t stand IPAs and their cousins.

Witchee, will you be gone from your normal mailing address at any point during the round? Not planning to be

Are you a Disney fan or does even thinking about Disney make your head hurt? If you're into Disney, would you like something from the Happiest Place on Earth ? Neutral. If you find something you think I’d love, sure. Otherwise, no thanks.

dear witchee, would you, could you use an electric candle warmer? Nope

Do you lust after some new socks/tights? Lust? Not quite, but I would love to get some. I almost always wear sandals, but, with cold weather and a lot of social events (hello family weddings) coming up, I’d love to replenish my stock of fun, funky, opaque socks and stockings.

are there any of MeiLin's books (e-book or print) you'd be interested in? Sure! The cookbooks sound interesting, and I read her Intimate History work online regularly.

Are you a gamer (of any sort - video, casual, tabletop) and are there any games you want? I haven’t gamed seriously since owning a Commodore (Wasteland and Bard’s Tale - BEST GAMES EVER). I have been getting a little itch to buy/play new dinner party games. Following Wil Wheaton on twitter and G+ is dangerous. Cards Against Humanity sounded interesting, but I’m up for anything that can be played while full and slightly tipsy.

Would you be interested in BPTP CANDY? Um, sure.

Do you like coffee? If so, what kinds? Flavored, fancy, basic? Beans or ground? Please no coffee. Part of my family is Colombian. They own two small coffee farms. I did a coffee swap on the forum a while back so that I could try all the exciting coffee options that I don’t usually buy because I’ve always got access to farm coffee. It was all great, but my curiousity is sated for now - back to supporting the family business.

Would a Starbucks gift card make you happy or do you prefer your local place? Don’t do Starbucks except in airports when I'm desperate (are you even surprised by that answer at this point?). My nearest local place is http://www.bennucoffee.com/ - it’s literally across the street. I usually don’t go there because I would spend way too much time there if I let myself. I stop by for a treat now and again, though.

CUSTOM-Made Pottery?? yea or nay? coffee mugs, rustic or more elegant? a set of bowls? soap dish? bird feeder? something alltogether different? and lastly, good colors for glazes...? Yes definitely, anything, elegant (please no rustic anything, totally not my style), any color but brown!

Do you have a forum buddy? Someone who knows you and/or your tastes well enough to answer questions on your behalf? Sadly, no

If you are on Livejournal, would you appreciate LJ stuff like paid time, custom userheads, stuff like that? If you are NOT on LJ but are on other sites that have similar paid-for services (Flickr, for example?) would you, and what are those sites/etc? Um, maybe a pro-renewal for Flickr (Vanesabl), but that seems like a huge gift.

A question, witchees: if you are into tarot, what is your favorite card? Not into tarot

And another question: would you like your own set of handmade rune stones or worry stones? No thank you

Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cider, or none of the above? All of the above, with the aforementioned caveat about coffee

Gum, hard candy, soft candy, or none of the above? All of the above, but I mostly like chocolate and interesting handmade candies.

Loose tea or tea bags? Do you need anything for your loose tea? (Filters, presses, etc.) Either. My tea balls got wrecked a couple months ago.

If you like tea, what kinds? Things in the English Breakfast range, Lipton iced tea (I know, I know, but it is the perfect thing for making big pitchers of iced tea so that I don’t drink soda all day long), some herbals. I’m not into blends that have smokey or sour notes.

Do you do Goodreads or LibraryThing or a site like that? If so, can I see your to-read list, please? No, sorry. I tried goodreads, but I’m not social enough for it to be worth it.

Zombies; Yay or Nay? Heh. Well. Both? I watch The Walking Dead and have a constant mental stream of what to do in case of zombie apocalypse (call it an off-shoot of the whole hurricane prep thing), but I think most zombie stuff is gross. My husband is a HUGE zombie movie (and video game, and comic book) fan. I’d just as soon avoid most zombie media out there, and I DEFINITELY don’t want anything with zombie imagery hanging about in my house. I did think Sean of the Dead was hilarious.

If you have cats, do they like catnip toys? If you have doggies, would they like a super-reinforced canvas toy with a squeaker in it? No cats. Pup would love such a thing. Then again, he also loves abandoned tennis balls.

If you have kids, what are they into? No kids

How do you feel about wearable knitted lace? Shawls, wraps, and the like? So impressed by the talent that goes into things like that. I wish I could produce knitted lace - I’d have piles of dainty shawls and wrist warmers.

Looking at the warehouse, I notice that our lovely Greenwoodtree is able to do chart readings and/or forecasts at a very reasonable rate. Is this something you would want? 1.) Greenwoodtree is amazing, 2.) no thank you.
