Fall '11 Switch Witch Questions! (Part 2, apparently!)
I am ridiculous, wordy, and ridiculously wordy. Apologies for the massive walls of text, my lovely Witch!
If you could have a salon scent made, based on any artwork(s) what would it be?
School of Athens, unless I'm silly and it exists, etc. I think I've already gushed about this painting when a favorite-painting type question was asked, but it really would be quite an excellent scent!
Are you scientifically curious and/or process-oriented? Would you like a project-type gift that allowed you do do something like make soap from scratch, take and (nontoxic-ly) develop photographs using a pinhole camera, use plant dyes on yarn or fabric, etc.?
Yes and no. It's more like, I'd like to be? Funny enough these examples mention making soap from scratch, because I've considered that. Then I just go read Fight Club again and pretend I have skills. (In short, I'm definitely curious but not very oriented. One might even say I'm quite disoriented, and would probably make a massive mess of a project like this. That isn't to say I wouldn't like having something to try, of course!)
What's 'your' song/your theme song?
I'm not sure if this would be my theme song, but I've always considered Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi my favorite song, and it'll always be my favorite song.
What would be your superpower?
That's always a super-tough one! I remember blanking and saying invisibility or something like that when I was asked that at my interview for my lifeguarding gig, of all places. I didn't really think it through, then, and now with some time to think about it, I think I'd say shapeshifting. There's something intriguing about having the capability of living different lives at different points in your one single life. (Does that sentence make any sense at all?) It'd be the one I'd want, though I don't know if it'd really suit me!
Do you like charm bracelets? If you had a bracelet, what sort of charms would you want on it? Favorite hobbies, symbols, whatever?
I had a little phase when I was younger a few years ago (I think I was about thirteen) when I really wanted one. I never did end up getting one, and I think I'd still love to get one now. I'd definitely wear it, too, because after getting rid of my lifeguard rubber band, I could use some sort of bracelet! As for symbols, I'm probably just repeating myself here, but I'd love to see wings or poker chips or cards or anything of the sort. My other (yes, my other one lone) hobby would be writing, and if there's any symbol that could be included from that, that would be cool, too! (I also really like fire. Just. Randomly.) So, in short, a charm bracelet would be awesome!
If you're interested in a handmade pouch/cover for an item you have (phones, tablets, books, keys, kettles...), what would your ideal pouch/cover have? Design, material, additional functionality/features like pockets or lights or secret hidey-holes?
I wouldn't mind one, but I wouldn't be able to ask for any specifics, either. I've never actually had a cover for my phones, cameras, and so on and so forth. (Kettles can have covers? I will need to investigate, because I own a kettle for the first time in my life!) I definitely wouldn't mind some book covers, though they'd probably sit around for a while until I find just the perfect book to put them on!
Do you like homemade snack mixes? I know Puppy Chow was mentioned in a previous question, but what about healthier and more natural type snacks like granola or trail mix? You can put a lot of delicious and fun things into trail mix, yeah? If you say "Sure, I'd love some!" what kinds of things do you like/not like in those kinds of snacks, ie coconut flakes, raisins, certain nuts (allergies??), candy, etc. Give us your list of DO's and DON'Ts!
Sure! This is, again, one of those things I don't particularly have a preference on. I do actually have quite a bit of trail mix sitting around the house, just little packets of snacks that my parents left here thinking I was going to starve to death. So there's no particular shortage of trail mix here, but I'm sure I wouldn't die if there were to be a bit more.
Would you like a photo collage based around your interests/favorite colors/favorite themes?
Absolutely! I probably beat this to death already in previous questions, but since I just moved to a new place, I'm still in the process of organizing everything and might not get around to finding a place to display such a lovely creation for a while, but I definitely wouldn't mind that as a gift!
If you're crafty, are you interested in spoonfeather? And if so, what things there delight your eyes?
I think I'm going to pass on this one, if only because I'm not very crafty. (Those things looks super expensive, too!)
Colors! What are your favorite colors and what colors do you not like? Pictures and links, people!
Okay, okay. Serious answer would probably be a dark forest green. I'm not too sure if this is actually my favorite color, but I do own a lot of things (backpacks, skirts, etc) in this color and I do like everything I own in this color. I also quite like brown. Not-at-all serious answer is Mountbatten Pink. Not pink. Not puce. Not magenta. Mountbatten pink.
What is your favorite word?
This question is always ridiculously hard for me. I remember a few years ago (alright, more like seven) my favorite word was conspiracy. Nowadays I really like the sound of is abandon. I'm not entirely sure what I love about it, but it could be the completely negative meaning of abandon as a verb compared to phrases like reckless abandon. So many meanings packed into such a simple little word! I also really like the word disappear, but only due to its part in disappear here, from Less Than Zero, which is easily my favorite two word phrase.
Would you be interested in getting a gently used BPAL tshirt from your Witch?
I certainly wouldn't mind it! However, I definitely do have enough clothes for the moment, so I'm not in dire need of a new shirt and there's absolutely no need to go out of your way to attire me, dear Witch!
What are the feelings on arm warmers? Color, style, texture, length?
I'm never owned arm warmers, actually! Winter's coming up, so of course I wouldn't mind if I were to receive, but I think I'll survive just as well without them. As for the specifics, I'm not too sure. I think I've already gushed about my favorite colors, and as for all the rest, I'm no expert and would probably be happy with any sort!
Do you like tarts? tealights? jar candles? votives?
I'm not sure what...any of this is! I can guess at what tealights and jar candles are, so to just answer for those two, I wouldn't mind receiving them, but I've never used anything of the sort much before in the life.
What's your favorite flavor? Sour, sweet, bitter, salty?
I think a question similar to this was asked in the questionnaire and I said something silly like the green and orange Skittles. WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS, or is now that I've actually processed the question correctly, that I do have quite a sweet tooth, but there's a limit to it and I get put off sweets for a good while when I hit that limit. I do also like salty things, but I need to watch my sodium intake especially when I start cooking on my own because I apparently really like salty things. Not a fan of things that a bitter, and not a huge fan of things that are sour. I also quite like things that a fizzy, though that's not exactly a flavor, and by which I mean I quite like soda. (I'm apparently the only person in the world that thinks Diet Coke just tastes better that regular Coke?) On a side note, and another weird note, I don't mind flat soda at all and actually quite like it! Not that I'm expecting flat soda or, really, any soda in my package, of course. Just a silly thing about myself aaand I'm rambling.
So, are there any online gaming witchees who covet purchasable in-game items or other gamer-y stuff?
Unfortunately, nope! I've never been into online games much. There's something about having a game that has a story that I can play from beginning to end, that isn't about leveling up and waiting for the next patch or update and whatnot. Just regular ol' PC games for me!
What is your favorite coffee blend at Starbucks? If you don't have one, what is your favorite roast of coffee?
I actually drink at Starbucks very, very rarely and I believe only when I've been given a giftcard. I don't find it particularly special, actually! I like the coffee I brew myself just as well, and for that I typically use those big ol' canisters of Folgers. (Which I really, really don't need any more of because I bought a new huge can after thinking I'd lost my old huge can and now have have two huge cans of the stuff just sitting around!) When I do go out to coffee shops, I typically go to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, which I discovered last year since it was on campus (and we didn't have any up in NorCal). I really love their iced tea, because it's just tea and ice and that's pretty much as healthy as iced tea can get! I don't really drink there much, either, and only did last year because I had hundreds of dining dollars to spend in a matter of weeks and, uh. Yeah. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, but it wasn't for lack of trying!
Is there anything you'd like from the Mütter Museum Store?
Nothing in particular!
I just noticed that Cocoa Pink has 5 ml Perfume Atomizers. Yay or nay? Scents you would like? Scents you would NOT like?
No idea what this is! Assuming it's perfume, I think I'll pass because I'm honestly not that into perfume. (BPAL being the obvious exception.)
What's your favorite kind of pizza?
The combo option at Costco, probably. It's not that it's super awesome spectacular pizza, but it's pretty much the only pizza I've ever had. (Family just eats there after shopping for convenience!)
Who are your style/fashion icons? Post pics if you want!
As in. Models? Ohhh, dearest witch. You don't even want me to get started. Let's just say Leif Stacey, Stephan Haurholm (or Skittles From Heaven, really), Casey Taylor, Bogdan Angheluta, Gemma Ward, Anna Lundgaard, and can I just say Stephan Haurholm again because god. Hearts in eyes, forever.
Are there any food items you're craving/aren't able to find around your area?
Asian food markets in general, actually. I'll need to keep looking, because they must exist!
What about little wee creatures for your desk or mantel, like this?
D'aww, that's adorable. I've got some plans for my mantle and desk and whatnot already, though, so I probably won't need anything more for that! (Something I discovered while packing, put into words by a friend, is that anything cute and soft will always stare you down and say, "What are you doing to do, not take me with you?" And this is how I end up with too much random junk in my too small condo.)
Is there anything you like or would like to try from Bath & Body Works?
I think I'll pass! I've never actually tried anything from this place, and actually thought for a long time that it was basically the same thing as Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Uhm. Whoops! Anyway, I certainly wouldn't mind anything from there, but there's nothing in particular I'm dying to have!
Look down. What are you wearing, right now?
Ohhh, no. This question caught me rolling right out of bed (at noon, yes; so much shame) and onto my laptop to check the Switch Witch thread. I'm just wearing some shorts and a t-shirt right now, which is what I usually sleep in!
It's the weekend, and you find yourself without a single chore or responsibility for a few hours. Right this very moment, what's the one thing you would do if you could do anything?
I'd probably loll around in bed and write all day, anything and everything. For hours and hours and hours without doing anything else at all.
Would you be interested in regional jams, jellies, or other preserves?
Sure! I definitely wouldn't mind.
Do you have any bedtime rituals? Is there any particular product you have to apply or a certain shirt you wear or an act you perform to get you in the "bedtime" mood?
I spin around three times and get into my nest. More seriously: I check all of my phone alarms to make sure they'll actually ring in the morning, because they're sort of janky and sometimes reset themselves to some quiet little tune that won't wake me up. I really do need to score myself a proper alarm clock eventually!
Are you interested in today's/any recent Tee Fury shirts?
I've not heard of these!
Princess Bride? Yay or nay?
Sure! I think I've actually seen the film only once, and a very long time ago when I was too little to remember much of it. I get most of the references just because they're made so often, and could probably do with a rewatch!
Is there any kind of international candy you love or would like to try?
I've been seeing a lot of talk about salted caramel or something of the sort? Never heard of it before, but it sound pretty delicious!
What is something totally random (yes, that thing that just popped into your head) that hasn't been covered by any previous questions?
I have this blanket/comforter/I-don't-even-know-what-to-call-it that's just the most comfortable thing I've ever hugged, and I love it to death. I have no idea what it is, what it's made of, or anything about it, really, so I'm kind of at a loss whenever I think about what I'll do if this one ever, uh, breaks. Not to say that. These things. Uh. Really break. (Well, the question did say totally random!)
Is there any cheesy/non-cheesy Canadian stuff you'd be interested in?
I'm going to say no here, because I do know how expensive shipping from Canada is! There's nothing in particular I'd really love to have and nothing in particular I'd hate to have, but the shipping fees always make me cringe!
Favorite fairy tale?
I'm tempted to just stick with Icarus because I don't honestly know all that much about many fairy tales. I've been seeing a lot of talk about Disney movies in relation to this question, I think, and I'm not too into Disney movies, either, except I love the Sword in the Stone to bits and pieces. (And, well, Meet the Robinsons, but that's not a fairy tale at all.) I do quite like Snow White, I guess? Just for being that traditional childhood fairy tale and whatnot. (On a completely random note, the Brothers Grimm? I didn't recognize Matt Damon or Heath Ledger until the second watch-through. By which I mean, WHY DID I WATCH THIS TWICE. /random tangent)
What is something people are always surprised to learn about you?
My tastes in music, generally. I'm a pretty huge fan of country music, and I do literally listen to anything. (I think my most listened to bands in the past few days are something like The Band Perry, Bon Jovi, Neon Indian, Ludo, and Bright Eyes. I don't even. I remember answering a question about music I don't listen to in my questionnaire, and I said rap, and apparently that's not actually true.) So. Yes. That. People are definitely surprised to find out I listen to country music, and even more surprised (if they ever choose to believe me, which they rarely, rarely do) that I listen to pretty much all kinds of music.
If you had to decide what your stripper name was, what would it be?
I always thought Cherry Darling was the most fantastic go-go dancer name ever. That aside, Roman Holiday.
Sooooo Witchees, have you ever taken that particular personality test? If so, are you an Analytical, a Driver, an Expressive or an Amiable?
I have, actually! Or at least taken a test similar to this one. Several times. I can never really remember my results. I'll try to remember to take this test again and get some results, and if they're important and I do forget, feel free to prod me to get into it, dear Witch! ETA: Analytical!
Is anyone else afraid of or creepy out by dummies/puppets/Muppets/etc? Other things you're squicked/freaked by that's best left by the wayside?
I think I'm alright with puppets and whatnot, but maybe only because I've never had to be exposed to them much. I've never been into the Muppets, but I like Avenue Q? (Well, I like the music of Avenue Q; never seen a bit of it myself.) I'm also a complete sissy when it comes to spiders. I don't mind seeing pictures of them, for the most part, but I just freeze in terror when I actually see one near me.
What level of contact were you hoping for from your witch?
I honestly put that I didn't request anything in particular. This being my first ever round of switch witch, I just wanted to be a great witchee to a great witch. That said, I am so glad to have you, my lovely Witch. Two things that I've realized since starting this round are that it's incredibly, incredibly awesome to have a high-contact witch and that it's ridiculously fun to be a high contact witch! I'm positively amazed by my switch witch experience, and I'm sure I will continue to be. Here's hoping I'll be a fun witchee and witch to have as well!
JONES SODA CO has LE soda packs for The Guild, Buffy, D&D, So Cute, etc. Would you be interested in these, Witchee?
Aww, as adorable as those look, I think I would prefer regular ol' soda in bulk from Costco. It's a really interesting idea from that company, but I'm not overly interested in any and probably wouldn't want to spend the money on those packs.
Along this line...Are there any local museums/attractions you keep never getting around to going to?
I lived in the Bay Area for something like a bajillion years until I just moved two weeks ago, and I always thought about going to the Winchester Mystery House, but never did. (I'm not sure why I thought about going, to be quite honest.) As for where I live now, I'm not too sure if there's anything local! I'm sure there is, and I've just yet to find out about it yet.
It's Banned Books Week! Are there any books on the list you'd be interested in checking out?
Augh, this gives me creepy-crawlie feelings all under my skin. Censorship is something I'm hugely, one hundred percent, veryveryvery strongly against. It stems from a whole list of things, but mainly our school board in senior year of high school. They banned Bastard Out of Carolina and refused to let our AP Lit teacher actually teach the book in class. My main issue with this is that they didn't ban it (and, yes, I did go on ahead and read the book anyway) because of the somewhat explicit scenes of masturbation or even of the somewhat (I say somewhat because Beloved, which we were permitted to study, contained a far more explicit scene) explicit scene of rape, and we all know they didn't ban it for these reasons because they did not read the book. It was a board of four or five people, I believe, and out of them, one single person read the book. That person? Was the only one to say yes. So, uhm, as indicated by all this wild and random rambling (and to think all I wanted to say, really, and that argh! people! stop banning books just because of the title! which has the word bastard! meaning the female lead's mother is not married to the female lead's father for crying out loud) I'm not a fan of censorship at all. That said, I could probably do with a copy of Brave New World. I keep coming across Island sitting on my bookshelf, but I can never find Brave New World. (This is, I realize, probably because I never owned a hard copy and read it off the AP reader we got in class senior year of high school. OH SO THIS YOU LET US TEACH, EH?)
What kind of purse do you prefer? Leather, cloth? over the shoulder or crossbody, or something that can do either? Do you like bold bright prints with fun things, or monochrome, solid colours?
I'm so out of the loop when it comes to purses that I don't even know what some of these terms mean. (Crossbody? I'm guessing that means it has a strap long enough to cross it over your shoulders?) But, to answer the question! I don't actually use purses much at all. I always just have my backpack, which is a messenger bag that goes over my shoulder. I'm thinking of grabbing a new cloth one in the future, because I've been using this one for a while now. Though, I don't suppose that counts as a purse!
What kind of bear is best?
Baby ones. Before they get the teeth and stuff. Yeah.
Do you drink wine?
Not. Uhm. Legally? (And, honestly, not often. My father says a bit of red wine with dinner is good for your health and my parents share something like a quarter or a half of a glass every night with their meal, so I've had the handful of sips throughout my lifetime. I also used to live quite close to Napa, so I've been to the wineries there and wine looks really interesting, but alas, no tasting for me just yet!)
Witches, did you lament NOT getting one of the condom case/imp cases that got released with the courtesan series?
I wasn't around to see them at all, actually, but probably not! I store my imps in ammo boxes, and maybe went a bit overboard with them after filling up three 50-slot ones to the brim. Now I probably have more space for imps than I'll ever need! (Just watch me come by more than 350 imps somehow and subsequently have to eat those words.)
Who's interested in Halloween: Montreal?
I wouldn't mind trying it (the loads of candy is a bit tempting), but I don't think I'd want anyone to spring for a bottle for me. It doesn't look like something I'm sure to fall in love with!
You get a package in the mail containing 3 things you have really wanted more than anything else you've mentioned so far in this thread. (they are all reasonably priced of course! ~$20 or less apiece). What are they?
Uhm. Let's see. Maybe something from Paintbox Soapworks? (Since finding out about it, I've become thoroughly addicted!) And definitely some magnets. I've been cleaning house and realized I really need some magnets. And...Brita filters? For my new water filter thing? (Oh man, I'm so practical sometimes it's just deathly boring.) I think those might run more than twenty bucks, though.
Witchee, would you like anything from this particular Haunt update?
I haven't looked! I'm determined to avoid any new perfume obsessions, but I'm sure you know me well enough by now, dear witch, to choose scents I'd love if you do branch out to other companies!
Describe your sense of humour.
Oh. Hrm. Tongue-in-cheek? I think I have phases of what sort of humor I enjoy in my media, and I'm really prone to mimicking humor. I've had my fling with dark humor a while ago, and I'll always have this nice on-and-off relationship with sarcasm. I think I like slapstick, but I haven't had much experience with it. (We saw this movie called The Bank Dick in our film class in high school, and it was pretty fantastic.) British humor is totally the bomb, too. I've never been too into bro-humor, especially bro-humor movies, though for whatever weird reason I thought the Hangover was pretty enjoyable. I especially like humor that doesn't hurt anyone? And I usually get my laughs from the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, if that helps. And I'm not sure why this answer is getting so long-winded, but! Yes. Tongue-in-cheek, I'd say.
Do you like reusable grocery bags? If so, do you like the kind that fold up (ie Chico Bags?)
I actually don't think I'd get much use out of one, even though I know I should and they're great for the environment. I don't know if anyone else does this, but for the little trash cans around our house (bathroom and kitchen and whatnot), we've always just used the plastic bags from grocery stores? So, yeah, I actually do typically grab the plastic bags at grocery stores!
As a witchee, would you want your witch to reveal, or is staying ninja/secret okay/preferable? As a witch, would you prefer to not reveal/stay ninja?
Whatever makes my witch the most comfortable is what I'd want, but my witch is just so amazing that I would love it if they'd revealed! As for me, personally, I think I'll probably reveal-- probably before the end of the round, even! I'm just not all that great at keeping secrets!
Would you be interested in the #occupywallstreet scent?
I...don't know. I think the patchouli would kill it for me, but the cacao and vanilla (and even tobacco!) sound kind of amazing. No idea!
Do Paintbox Soapworks' Goat's Milk Hand and Body Creams sound like something you'd like to try?
This is another thing I'm going to have to check out!
Is there a magazine that you DON'T read because you can't find it near you, but wish you could?
Just GQ, at the moment. I keep telling myself I'm going to renew my subscription (well, sign up for a new subscription since I can't even access the details of my old one), and then forgetting all about it!
Oh, does anyone else do the good-luck-trinkets-on-your-person thing?
Not really, though I don't mind having trinkets lying around!
Who likes silly items from Archie McPhee?
Never heard of it, actually!
What are you drooling over from the Sock Dreams Halloween stuff?
I haven't explored Sock Dreams much since hearing about it here, but from what little I've seen, I don't think I'll be interested in much. I'm a pretty boring-regular socks type of person!
Is there a movie you want so badly that you don’t own now?
Tekkonkinkret! It makes no sense to me that I don't own this, because it isn't exactly expensive but just augh. I guess I just keep forgetting to buy it! I definitely need to get this on my shopping list.
Is there a song on iTunes that you haven’t downloaded yet?
Most of them, I'd say. I listen to all the Bon Jovi in the world (all of which I have), whatever country music is on the radio (most of which I do not have), and everything that my musical friend sends my way (all of which I have). I'm not sure if I could pinpoint a song that I haven't downloaded that I do want. Ringtones, on the other hand... I could really use me some ringtones. (Just for my iTouch. For my phone, I use Audacity to make my own!)
Is there a rare book you’ve always wanted?
Erm. I'm going to go with Less Than Zero, but specifically the first edition with the cover that features the by Wayfarer style sunglasses with one blue lense and one red lense? I've only ever seen one copy, and of course snatched it up. Then I lent it away to someone because it was either that copy or my signed copy that I was going to lend (only had two at the time!), and she hasn't given it back. I do think she intends to the next time we meet up (because, pff, she still has my skateboard, too), but I'm on the hunt for another copy anyway!
Is there anything you want to buy yourself but have been too embarrassed (R rated or PG)?
Pokemon White or Black. I'm not actually embarrassed to be seen buying it, really, because adults can play Pokemon, too, damn it! What's kind of too embarrassing is that I'm a (mostly) jobless college kid still pretty dependent on her parents, and even if Pokemon is a totally legitimate adult game, I shouldn't be spending that much money on a game at all. The shame would be endless!
What small everyday items would you like, that you keep forgetting to get?
I'm in dire need of some magnets. I mentioned at one point that I needed a vegetable peeler, but my dearest Witch, I'm sorry to have to confess that I did cave and buy myself one. Those carrots and cucumbers weren't going to last much longer sitting in my fridge!
Tell me about something you like, and why you like it.
So, I like poker. I like poker a lot. I like the cards, aesthetically, especially the red Bicycle packs. I like the games, anything from Texas Hold'em to Razz to Badugi. (Alright, that's a lie. I fffing hate Badugi.) And I love it like anyone else would love a favorite sport. It's obviously not a physical sport, but I'm always going to maintain that it's a sport. There's professional players, there's professional teams, and there's a world series of it. All of which are such awesome things. (Well, FullTilt excepted. I don't know how I feel about them right now after the way they handed the Black Friday online poker shut down debacle.) What I love most, arguably, is the players. There's so many interesting characters to be found, and they aren't touched in the way so many celebrities are. I love the economy of the whole thing, too. Yes, people like Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu are throwing around literal millions (over ten, let's just say) of dollars, but they're throwing it around within the game. Each player has a bankroll, and they keep their bankroll focused on poker. Not to say it never happens, but for the most part, they don't blow the nine million dollars they will on luxury cars or beach houses or sports gambling (oh, god, Peter Eastgate, you poor stupid boy). They keep it, for the most part, in their neat little bankroll that goes back into poker. It's a circulation! And. And, uhm, now I'm just rambling hardcore so I will stop all this with what's probably the most important reason I love poker: the players are really awesome.
If you're the MMU type of Witchee, what Geek Chic Cosmetics tickle your fancy?
I was going to take a wild guess and ask if MMU was Make Up Alley, but then I realized that didn't make any sense at all. (herpaderp) So, I think it's safe to say I'm not the MMU type a witchee. No idea what that is!
For those of you that like candles, do you like stuff from Yankee Candle? And if you had to choose, tarts or candles?
No candles for me! I'm terrified of leaving open flames around the house because knowing me, I really will just forget and leave for school for a few hours.
Am I the only one? Does anyone else like collector Barbies?
I've never really been the Barbie type!
