Switch Witch Q&A - Fall 2011 Round
September 8th
From the Weenie Update....what are you most wanting to try?
I've tried a bunch already at will call -- hoping there will be even more at this next will call in September. I actually think I'm most excited about the two Forum Only scents -- Sprinklecake and Halloween: Las Vegas.
Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands?
I'm not super into nail polish, but my TOES are always painted. My son just stole my Blood Countess BPTP polish, so I'd like some more of that.
Is there a quote (or lyric or part of a poem) that really resonates with you or is your favorite?
Yes -- many. But I can't think of anything right now except the funny ones like from Monty Python, The Tick, or Princess Bride. *facepalm*
Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw...
I really love the Yankee halloween patchouli scented candle. And their other black candle that smells like men's cologne -- midsummer night or something. I actually make my own candles as well and have worked as a chandler for Sweet Spirit Candles. I used to sell PartyLite and have a METRIC ASSLOAD of 3 wicks, votives, tealights, etc. But I still wouldn't say no to more snobby candles. Because... flove. I even have the candle lamps that take utility candles. I am not picky about color, although I prefer them in my favorite decorating colors (black, white, grey, purple, blue, wine, etc.) I like a HUGE throw. I love pillar, jar, votive, three wick... I don't like scented tealights as much because I generally only use tealights for tart warmers and I don't want the smell of the tealight to compete with the smell of the tart.
Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors?
Heck yeah! I love wrist warmers and long pointy shawlettes (especially like Hitchhiker or any of Martina's patterns. She is awesome with the really long shawls.) I like black, purple, blurple (blue-purple)..
Would you be interested in homemade edibles that are NOT sweets? Any specifics?
sure! pickles, jam, beef jerky... and sweets too. Maybe if I had more options for non-sweet edibles? My mind is a blank.
What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying?
The Velvets and pretty much anything on my wishlist, especially the TAL's, I could really use some TAL's right now.
Yo, yarnies! Do you Ravelry? If so, who are you over thar?
I answered this already in my initial submission, but I am misstwilight. I am a complete yarn snob hoar.
Social Media?
Pretty sure I answered this on my initial submission as well. twitter = mstwilighteyes, livejournal= miss_twilight
Do you have wishlists for non-BPAL e-tailers? And if so, could you provide a link or a list?
I included my wishlists on my initial submission (amazon, etsy, thinkgeek, etc.) and there are links in my signature as well (wishing & sw help, then click on sw help.)
Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac?
I use a PC. I'm a unix geek but I also have windows 98, windows xp, windows vista, and windows 7. and an ipad. and an iphone.
What is your favorite animal?
I can only have ONE?! I love Friesian horses (and horses in general), bully breed dogs, ferrets, bats, rats, corvids...
What are you going to be for Halloween?
Like I think that far ahead?
If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be?
(If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.)
I would know when I saw it... I have many examples of artwork that I admire on my etsy favorites list. I'm drawn towards dark gothy things and love celtic knots. Again with the corvids, ferrets, horses, bully breeds...and gargoyles!
How do you feel about nick-knacks?
meh. I have very limited space that is already completely filled with knick knacks and perfume bottles.
What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you?
All of my traditions are important to me! They help me keep track of the time of year if nothing else. In the fall I love to visit my favorite corn mazes, carve pumpkins, etc.
Do you like going to the movies?
Yes and no. I like to go on weeknights when no one else is around - I really am uncomfortable around a lot of other people and I get grumpy if someone is kicking my seat or blocking my view. or talking/crunching loudly.
What are your favorite restaurants?
My favorite large party restaurant is Buca di Beppo. I love various Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, and Mexican restaurants too.
Do you play any video games?
Sadly, yes. I have played Ultima Online for over 10 years, I love the Zelda games (started on Nintendo, last played Twilight Princess on the Wii). I have been known to play Guitar Hero occasionally.
Do you like any anime?
Yes, but I haven't watched anything new ... new being like the last 15 years.
Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for?
I could use a case for my 1st gen ipad and I need some screen cling covers for my iphone.
how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be?
It really depends on the jewelry. I have some jewelry in my etsy favorites. If it were from Stardust I would probably be pretty excited. I am NOT excited about dangly earrings, I only wear studs.
How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants?
I *really* don't cook very much. I'd rather have something cooked and sent to me.
Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above?
I would die for more 9 drawer Ikea FIRA boxes. Or 5 drawer. Or any of the FIRA models. Or heck, I could use some more tea boxes. I have a few small boxes on my etsy wish list.
Muppets: yea or nay?
Murdered muppets, yay!
Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite?
I enjoy Calvin & Hobbes but I don't have any special affinity for any of them.
Favorite Mythological Creature?:
Hippocampus, Unicorn.
Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers
I have a few gothy hair things on my etsy wish list. I could probably use some more hard headbands with teeth.
Expanding on the hair question - does anyone like those flower clips for the hair that are big right now??
Right now my head is almost shaved so I really don't need any hair clips.
September 9th
Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents?
Yes! I would love to try more of the TAL incense; I have the Samhain: Sabbat incense. I can do loose/resins, cones, sticks, whatev. I might need some more self igniting charcoal and a bowl of sand though... I love all kinds. Patchouli, sandalwood, nag champa, nightspell, amber resins, all kinds of resins.
- Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you?
Yes. And I'm pissed that Pottermore put me in HUFFLEPUFF. I wanted Ravenclaw or Griffindor. Pissed enough that I want to delete my account. *grumble stomp stomp gnash gnash*
- If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from?
Amazon is always a winner. Couldn't complain about Villainess, Scent Addict, Soap Box Company, or many other stores either.
Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to?
ALL of them? I really enjoy reading the re-written fairy tales and I collect the colored fairy tale books. Oh, and I collect Arthurian fiction.
If you RP, tabletop, forum, or otherwise... Do you have any original characters you'd like to see art of? If so, please give information! Even if it's a link to a web page or a profile or picture!
I used to play a lot... some of my characters are now immortalized as test characters in GURPS Cyberpunk. I don't think I need any artwork of them.
If you could see anything, what would it be? Can be a person, an event, a landmark or monument, an object, etc. And it doesn't have to be on this planet, or in this time period, or in this reality!
Probably ancient Rome, Green, Egypt, and Britain. And Alexander the Great's horse. And lots of gargoyles on churches and structures in Europe.
When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter?
I curl up on the couch with a book, tea, and my snuggly doggies.
What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters?
I really would like The Last Unicorn comic series as well as The Guild. And I'd love to have the hard cover graphic novel collections of Sandman.
Are you musical? Do you play an instrument, and if so, what? If not, what do you wish you could play or do?
I used to play flute and violin. I started on Guitar but never took actual lessons and then my son stole my guitar back. I've always wanted to be able to play the piano.
Does anyone garden? And if you do, what do you grow? If not, would a starter garden kit be something you'd be interested in?
I would love to have my garden back. At one time I had over 50 different types of roses (mostly purple and all fragrant) and 11 different types of lavender. I love herbs. I want to have a nice knot garden, shade garden, night garden, kitchen garden, rose garden, butterfly garden, and of course a vegetable garden. I have a bunch of "seed bomb" kits on my Etsy favorites. I think I need to get a bunch of wildflower seeds to sprinkle everywhere in the woods... we have a lot of full shade and partial sun areas. No full sun. And since I hope to get some more honeybees, I need a bee garden too. And something for the hummingbirds.
Do you decorate for Halloween? Is your decorating taste elegant, kitschy and fun, or scary?
I think my decorating is fun but my brother's (soon to be ex) wife always found it scary, so really I guess it depends on your religion and perspective.
Witchee, do you have any symbols or totems that have special meaning for you?
Ankh, Eye of Horus, corvid (totem), wolf (totem), horse (totem), horse celtic knot, raven knot, ferret knot. I love swirls. Again, you will see some of the symbols in my favorites on etsy. I am at least consistent.
Is anyone fond of programs like Adopt a Tree/Highway/Library/Manatee/Acre of Rainforest/etc?:
meh. Not really my cuppa.
September 10th
What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with?
I'm not really obsessed with anyone per se. I do like to look at cute actors such as Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, etc. I love Depeche Mode, especially Martin Gore. Lately I've been getting into Abney Park. Author wise, I love Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett and many others.
are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update?
I want them alllll in candle form. *sigh*
If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat?
My dogs are on a grain free diet so that is their only restriction. They have their own wishlist section on my Amazon list.
What are your top three "I want to try them but I think I'll never get to try them" (or, "I've tried them and I want moar moar moar, but I don't think I'll ever get any") scents/bath oils/sprays?
I missed out on all of the Bat's Day scents this year, so those are high on my list.
Is there a particular artist and piece that you would like a print of? If so, what is your max size that you could spare on your walls?
I have lots of prints on my etsy favs but I don't really have a lot of room to hang *anything* right now.
If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase?
I'd love a GC for Prescriptives but otherwise, my skin is totally sensitive and I'd prefer to buy my own things (unless I have it linked to my Amazon wishlist in which case, feel free!) Exceptions would be things like your favorite long lasting eyeliner (pencil, creme, liquid) in black or dark purple, mascara, eye shadow, etc.
Do you like coffee or tea? Would you be interested in trying some different types?
I really prefer tea these days. I drink mostly black tea but I wouldn't say no to wonderfully flavored greens. Not a big fan of rooibos or white. I do like herbal teas to an extent but I dislike chamomile with a passion.
Are there any CDs/Albums you've been wanting but haven't bought yet? What format do you prefer? (i.e. mp3, actual cd, record, etc)
MP3 or actual CD. I'd love some Abney Park albums or any new albums by Electronic, The Cure, etc. I believe I have a CD section on my amazon wish list.
Are you going away for any part of this round?
Dunno yet. I'd LIKE to go to Disneyland for Halloween but since we had a bunch of emergencies this summer/fall already, I am teh broke.
Would you like to receive a mix-CD from your Witch?
I am pretty picky about my music but I have received some really nice mix cd's from BPAL folks, so I can't say NO.
If your witch were going somewhere on a vacation during the round, would you want a little souvenir?
Well, it depends on where they're going and what the souvenir is. Postcards? Sure! Trinkets? Not unless I specifically collect them, such as NMBC or Gargoyles. Or if they are something that I would absolutely love.
Do you enjoy any outdoor activities? Do you have a favorite form of "exercise"?
I go boating, quad and dirt bike riding, do agility with my dogs, huge fan of horseback riding, geocaching, hiking, etc. Wish I had a swimming pool because that and horseback riding are my fav exercise.
Any witchee's with a ravelry account have any favourited patterns that cost money that would be a welcome gift?
Oh yes they would be welcome. I have a lot of patterns in my queue that are "Wishlisted".
Do you work/study at a desk and enjoy interesting or cute office supplies?
I do have a job in cubicle land and I love cube toys!
Witchee, are you a fan of musicals? If so, which ones?
meh. Musical movies? Broadway shows? I like music from a few but I'm not an uber fan of any.
Do you have an Etsy shop? Do you know of any Etsy shops that are Switch Witch friendly?
My mom is setting up an Etsy shop right now - mostly spinning/knitting/crocheting friendly. Most etsy shops seem to be Switch Witch friendly, I've never had a problem with buying things for my Witchees.
Would a gift or a postcard from Disneyland make you squee with delight or puke into your mail box?
I would totally squeal if it was NMBC or PotC related! Oh! And the Haunted Mansion! Anything Gothy is cool. I'll pass on the Twilight Tower knick knacks though. I bought the Mad Hatter tea when I was there in May. I would love to try some of the other Disneyland tea or cocoa. And their candy bars were the CUTEST but I didn't buy any for myself. I'm a huge Eeyore fan too.
I am fond of the thrift. Do you mind lightly used goods? Please be specific!
As stated previously, I really like used books. I'm ok with antiques and things that can be thoroughly cleaned. I forgot to mention that I collect Starbucks Mugs, Starbucks Bearistas, and Neodymium glass, the latter being mostly depression era so found at second hand and antique stores. Not so hot about used clothes, shoes, undergarments, etc.
September 11th
what are your favorite types of Halloween candy?
The Cadbury Mini import bags from World Market! As far as "grocery store" chocolate (which I am too snobby to eat except around halloween or easter, haha) I like Kit Kats, 100 Grand bars, the caramel covered apple pops, almond M&M's, Reese's peanut butter cups (although I prefer the Newman's peanut butter cups), etc. I can't think of anything else. I'd have to go walk through the candy section at Target.
Do you prefer soap or shower gel? Please give examples of your favorite scents or brands.
Shower gel, emulsifying sugar scrubs, and really oily salt or sugar scrubs. I love the scrubs from Arcana, Paintbox Soapworks, Villainess, and Haus of Gloi. I'm trying to do no-SLS but I haven't found any really exciting shower gels without it and I still have a ton of LUSH shower gels, although I am out of Tramp.
as far as soap bars go, I do love soap bars -- BUT I am a soaper and I make my own.. and I have a closet that is so full of soap that the soap is going bad. Especially the LUSH soap. I just can't use it fast enough. So *please* do not send me soap, I am still trying to use my huge stash. I need to start giving it away!!
How do you like your chocolate? For example with nuts, mint, peanut butter, caramel?
Ohhh why must you ask this question now when I am feeling chocolate deprived?? My tastes go back and forth depending on stress and hormone levels. Chocolate bar wise: I love the "Naga" bar by Vosges Haut Chocolate, the "Hot Masala" bar from Dolfin (and their jasmine tea bar too, yum!), the peanut butter bar and the mint bar from Truffle Pig, the Cadbury Fruit & Nut bar, Crunch Bar, & Whirly bar (but it has to be the import -- not the fake Cadbury from Hersheys), the Seattle Chocolate Company "San Juan" bar or truffles (salted chocolate), anything from Cocoa Velvet but especially the rose caramels, Godiva's salted milk chocolate caramel bar, Milka milk chocolate bars, Rittersport milk or dark chocolate with whole hazelnut bars, Frango mints, the Honeycomb from Boehms (local), Fran's chocolate especially the salted caramels. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I also really really love drinking chocolate and cocoa (mostly the snobby kind, like the Vosges Parisian but also the Salted Caramel hot cocoa from World Market and Ghiradelli double chocolate cocoa. And Scharfenberger sweetened cocoa.) I have a ton of chocolate bars, chocolate truffles, caramels, drinking chocolate, etc. on my etsy favorites and on my amazon wishlists. My favorites are really the smaller batch snobby stuff, especially small local places. I don't normally eat Hersheys or Sees unless I am desperate for chocolate and it's right in front of me or the only thing available. Frango, Cadbudy (imported only!), Milka, Ghiradelli, Godiva, and Lindt are bigger companies but I think they are ok to good quality and I will definitely eat those. I am not so found of Dagoba anymore since they were bought by Hersheys but sometimes I'll get one of the Dagoba Chai bars to see if the quality has gone back up (it hasn't yet.)
Beads! Do you use them? Would you want some? What sorts of beads do you like?
I don't really use beads. I have some yarn, beads, and crochet hook to make a scarf with but I am unmotivated about starting the project. Maybe someday I'll learn how to make jewelry and stitch markers after which I will want tons of skull and gargoyle beads.
Anyone here like caramels? Sea salted caramels?!?!:
FLOVE CARAMELS. Especially sea salt! As you will notice if you look at my etsy favorites.
Anyone like anything in particular from Think Geek?
Yep, I included my Think Geek wishlist on my sign up questions and it's also linked from my SW Help page.
Would you like a hand dyed or hand painted scarf or wrap or other item? If so, what colors/designs/fabrics do you like?
I would love a huge wrap or table covering/runner. I love black, purple, blue, wine, grey... designs? swirlies! celtic-y! As far as fabrics go, I love things that easy to wash (assuming table runner/covering) but I also love natural fibers (acrylic = ick!) so... cotton? I do actually hand wash a lot of things too, so other natural fibers are also great. Silk, cashmere, wool.
Does anyone here like stones? Just pretty polished stones for use in whatever purposes?
I do! And I love gemstones too.
September 12th
If you have kids, would you be interested in getting things for them? And if so, what are they interested and what sizes are the wearing now?
My son is 21 and doesn't live with me. But he DOES love BPAL... he even has a scent locket.
Would you like to receive e-books? And if so, in what format?
Yes!! I have the kindle application on my iphone and ipad, but I also have ibooks. I can use .mobi and .pdf for sure.
Would you be interested in a felted handbag? Do any of these styles appeal to you? http://tinyurl.com/3o2epzl (there's at least one guy-friendly style, too!)
ooh! I love felted bags. My favorites are 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 15 and ESPECIALLY 12!!! DOMUKIN!!! I have a huge book of patterns for crafting felted bags but it seems I prefer to have people make them for me.
Are there are patterns, motifs, etc that you especially like?
I love swirls - like Tim Burtonesque type swirls. Celtic knots.
Witchee, would you be interested in having a special tea cup/coffee mug/glass to drink out of?
Perhaps, rabbit, perhaps! I do collect Starbucks city mugs so I have like 500 coffee mugs. But occasionally I find other mugs that I MUST. HAVE. Like one with a bat on it from Fred Meyer -- had to have. And the "Mr. Tea" ones from Etsy? Again, must have. Would especially love a special glass to drink out of.
If you're a tea drinker, is there any specific tea you would like to receive, not just the kind/flavor but also the type/packing--i.e., tea bags, loose tea, compressed, etc?
Honestly, I am a bit of a tea snob. I would REALLY REALLY like OMG LOVE YOU FOREVER if you sent me some Butterscotch tea from Mariage Frères or tea from Dammann Frères. (see edibles section on Amazon wishlist.) I like loose tea but sometimes I use bags (although the tea snob in me screams "LOWER QUALITY! LOWER QUALITY!" Sometimes you just gotta drink tea from a tea bag -- and I like a lot of tea that comes in bags, so ... I have to shove my inner tea snob into the corner and tape her mouth shut a lot.) I really could use some more gold filters (see amazon wishlist) to steep tea. I do work for an extremely large coffee & tea company so I have access to a lot of tea, but nothing as tasty as Mariage and Dammann. I drink mostly black tea. I love flavored -- butterscotch, chocolate, anise (!!), cardamom. I have some wonderful chocolate chili from a friend in Germany. She also sent me some Anise and I LOVE IT TO DEATH. She's the evil enabler who originally sent me the Butterscotch Mariage that I would LOVE to get more of. I'm hoarding my small amount like crazy. I also love the Aveda tea, Egyptian Licorice Mint yogi tea (I'm totally out! It's on my amazon wish list!), and sometimes I get a hankering for coconut flavored black or green tea (but I'm totally stocked on those, thanks.) We have a really nice tea store or two in Seattle - sometimes The Tea Cup on Queen Anne has Dammann tea. Sadly, since I work graveyard, it is hard to get there during business hours. I also love rose flavored black tea, jasmine pearls, mint, lavender... I could use some more Good Earth tea too (the original flavor, not decaf.)
September 13th
How would you feel about kitchen towels and other similar household objects, if they are pretty or a souvenir?
I'm all over kitchel towels!
How did you dress up for your last party or compulsory-formal-dress occasion?
I don't really do formal dress. Most of the parties I attend are either full blown fetish-goth wear (in which case I wear a leather corset, black skirt, leather boots) or very casual, in which case I wear BDU's or something.
Do you enjoy puzzles/riddles? (Cryptograms, Sudoku, Crossword, Jigsaw, etc)
Not especially. I play with some online or on my ipad/iphone but I'm good with what I've got.
Can you sum yourself (whether it be personality, life's goals, ethics, whatever) in 10 words or less?
Nope. It would take a lot more than 10 words!
How about little bottles of booze? Ya wanna? What kind?
Heck yeah! I am obsessed lately with Honey flavored things. And Vanilla flavored things. And I love Butterscotch schnapps & Irish cream (buttery nipples!!)
What are your views on fudge and brownies? (Also, if you live in a warm place, where the fudge might melt, that'd be helpful to know. Or, if you're diabetic and fudge is death, that'd be useful to know, too.)
YES PLEASE. But NO NUTS. I can't stand crunchy things in my fudge or brownies.
Also, what about mochi? Love it, hate it, baffled by it?
I can take it or leave it. Every once in a while I'll buy Mochi in the freezer section at our local Uwajimaya (usually red bean or green tea.)
Does anyone like kimchi?
Er.. I don't know! Can you believe I haven't tried it?
Would you be interested in a sample box(from somewhere like Birchbox or loosebutton)?
I have no idea what those are.
Anything from the update ya'll are liking?
You have to place a Lab and Trading Post order. Right fuckin' now. No spending limits. What do you buy?
Sprinkle cake, Halloween: Las Vegas, more Samhain Incense, the Samhain Sabbat TAL oil, hair gloss (snake oil, honey, frankincense clove), the bath brews, and pretty much every single thing from the BPAL Halloweenies and BPTP. I'll have to go add to my wishlist when I have a free moment.
Paintbox Soapworks - anything you're interested in, in general or from the latest update?
I don't have anything from the latest update, I love sorbetto.
Do you guys have any sports that you follow obsessively? How about favorite teams and/or athletes?
Nope. NOt into sports. I am "forced" to follow Monster Truck Racing (I guess that's a motorsport) because my DBF drives "Captain USA" as a back up driver. I don't mind watching equestrian sports.
How do you feel about notebooks/journals/stationery? Anything you need or particularly like?
Don't really need.
Does confetti/glitter make you angry or fill you with glee?
In between. It doesn't make me angry, but I don't hug it to my chest and dance around with it either. I do like glittery makeup, hair gel/spray, etc. Would prefer not to be glitter bombed by loose glitter in packages.
How do you feel about stuffed animals/plushies/general soft, cuddly things? If you like them, what kind of animals would you be interested in?
I like weird and unusual ones or amigurumi. I have some plush monsters from Monster Nursery, an amigurumi pit bull that dixiehellcat made for me, assorted ferrets, bats, etc. I have one of those cute pink cthulhu's with the big eyes on my amazon wishlist. They sell them at Dark Delicacies -- I squeed when I saw them.
how interested would you be on somewhat personalized bottle cap labels?
Sure! Except I have about 1500 bottles so how would you choose which to label?
When you're miserably sick (*sniffle, cough!*) what are the things that comfort you the most?
Jamba Juice "Cold Buster" smoothies, Tea, books, fire, soup, sleep, sometimes movies, snuggly doggies, luxury socks (cashmere!), long hot baths with BPAL oil, blankie, fluffy pillows, and someone waiting on me hand and foot. OMG and the "Kiss my Face" brand "Cold & Flu Soothing Bath & Shower Gel" is the BOMB. I'd really like to try the BPAL Panacea blend ELIXIR XI: OOF too. I use GRR and BITCH a lot.
What constitutes ultimate luxury to you? (go crazy!)
Well, having my own private island, jets, helicopters, servants, servants for my servants, servants for my dogs, a stable full of friesians, and more money than I could spend in 10 lifetimes. Not having to wait line, excellent food, clean high thread count sheets, being pampered and spoiled. Having people be POLITE to you! (Seriously, customer service is dead.) Cashmere, Mead, Tawny port, high quality chocolate and truffles, really good cheese, etc.
What do you really NOT want?
Scarves and soap. Unless of course they are the best scarves in the world that were made by you in my yarn and color choices. Or the soap is my most favorite scent and was made by you. Or is Snake Oil soap. Or soap on my wishlist. Or made by Yewberry.
interested in anything from Lush?
I have a love and hate relationship with LUSH. I love a ton of their scents though, and would like to try some of their perfume. And I love their shower gel scents but dislike that they are SLS. I could use some more Ocean Salt and some more moisturizer since that didn't make me break out (I don't remember what kind, it's on my amazon wishlist under bath and beauty.) I love bath bombs and sugar scrubs - I haven't bought anything from Lush since last holiday season. Oh, I love the Silky Underwear powder too. And T for Toes. Would like to try the Vanilla powder. I'll add things to my Amazon wish list as I see them. FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY, PLEASE NO SOAP THOUGH.
* I like beets in soup, such as borsht. I've never had them roasted, I might like them. I love other roasted veggies, especially carrots. I don't like beets steamed or boiled, or at least I didn't when I was a kid. (I used to try to hide them in my glass of milk.) But really, why do we bring up beets for every single switch witch round? Paintbox Soapworks still has the Beet It scent, just saying. I have it in Sorbetto in my shower RIGHT NOW.
* I like the "petite" brussel sprouts from Safeway (safeway brand -- what is it called, president's choice?) - they are tiny and succulent and not bitter. I don't like really large tough bitter brussel sprouts.
* I like anchovies in my caesar salad. Sometimes on pizza. And I love kippered snacks on crackers.
* I like black licorice but the ikea salted fish shaped licorice is a little too much, kthx. I'm not really a huge licorice fan when it's the candy stuff filled with corn syrup but give me some anise flavored black tea and OM NOM NOM. anise caramel, anise fudge... In other words, please don't send twizzlers or anything with corn syrup as a main ingredient. I would be tempted to eat them but I really don't want corn syrup-y candy.
* I am *not* a fan of marzipan. I will take most anything rose, lavender, jasmine, or cardamom flavored. I love the rose and jasmine pastilles!
* I am not a fan of nuts in my chewey things, except for turtles and pralines and things that are *supposed* to have nuts. (ie, I don't like aplets and cotlets - those are like turkish delight, right? - because they have nuts in them. It could just be that I loathe and detest walnuts.) But keep the nuts out of my cookies and baked goods, kthx.
* I like mushrooms.
* I love olives, especially garlic stuffed olives and kalamatas.
* I like goat cheese. And blue cheese. And cotswald. And gouda of all types. CHEESE, GROMIT! I especially love salad with fruit and cheese. Like apples, mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, strawberries, etc. with blue cheese, goat cheese, or whatever pairs properly with said fruit. And candied pecans. (I think I am hungry right now.)
* I like raisins in oatmeal raisin cookies. I don't like them in cinnamon rolls. ptooie. I second the golden raisins; I use those in my broccoli salad. And OMG SO GOOD IN THE MORROCAN COOKING. And in indian food.
* I like ginger. I like pickled ginger, fresh ginger, ginger chews. Nom! (Not so much the Ginger from Gilligan's Island, though.)
* I like fresh mango! And dried mango but prefer to stay away from sulfites as mush as possible. Which sucks because I LOVE summer sausage, ham, beef jerky, bacon, etc. But where I can avoid sulfites, I do, and there is dried mango available without it. We used to get canned mango in Panama (my uncle was stationed there for a long time. I got to visit.) NOM NOM NOM.
* salted caramels and chocolate = yes. But I am kind of a chocolate/caramel snob, I readily admit it. Please don't buy me a bug of kraft caramels. *makes face* hand made caramels are the nom! especially the ones without corn syrup.
* Sugar Skulls -- I've never had a "real" sugar skull, but I don't think I would eat it. I would happily accept the Vosges chocolate "Sugar skulls" or the skull lollipops.
* garlic - yes please. fresh, roasted, in goat cheese, in chocolate chip cookies, pickled, garlic garlic garlic. I miss the garlic festival that one of our italian restaurants used to have every fall. Garlic chocolate chip cookies, garlic cheesecake (goat cheese), roasted garlic, garlic oil on pasta, NOM NOM NOM.
* pumpkin -- YES. Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin risotto (with oyster mushrooms!), baked pumpkin used as a shell for soup, pumpkin curry, gimme gimme.
* spinach - yes! cooked, raw, baked in things, yes yes. I love it on pizza, in salads, in spanakopita, mmmm.
* Not a meringue fan.
* Cilantro is FTW. I would put cilantro on everything if I had it handy. I love it in sandwiches (raw), on pizza, in salsa, on mexican food, I use it when cooking anything that takes The Holy Trinity as a base (or mirepoix, soffritto, etc. depending on cuisine type.) I use it in broth. with corned beef & cabbage. indian food, thai food, rice. It's SO versatile!!
* cupcakes are full of win. But I prefer spice, chocolate, lavender, etc. to plain vanilla/white. although I'll take vanilla buttercream frosting any day of the week over chocolate. I think the chocolate frosting is usually too heavy. Around here we have Cupcake Royale and Trophy Cupcakes that are my fav places, as well as Sugar Rush Baking Company.
* Avocado - yes. especially mixed with cumin, red pepper, and garlic. Or with cilantro, onions, tomatoes, and lime juice.
do you like chex puppy chow or muddie buddies (ingredients: semi-sweet chocolate chips, PB, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, chex cereal)?
That sounds yummy!
Would you be interested in a handmade bookmark?
It depends on what it's made of. Flat paper or fabric? sure. The metal ones with beads? Not so much. I tend to just use a thick cardstock type paper bookmark most of the time. usually a postcard or something.
Do you blog? Would you like a header for your blog, a layout, etc?
No thanks. But my mom could use a banner for her etsy store.
How would you feel about receiving a Groupon deal for something in your local area? If there is anything you WOULDN'T like, mention that also.
Er, I usually buy whatever Groupons I want. Same with Restaurant.com -- when there is 90% off sale I get the GC's for all of the restaurants that I like. My suggested would be to just make a SOOPER SEKRIT switch witch e-mail address (gmail is free!) and send me questions about a particular item and I can say yea or nay.
Are you more prone to order out or cook at home? Would you be interested in cookbooks, kitchen utensils, and the like? If so, anything specific?
I usually order out. I do make the dogs their own raw diet so I could use more measuring cups and measuring spoons.
I am also on Team Mead and Team Honey. Seriously, I am down to about 3 bottles of mead. ACK! Thank goodness my mom brought me another gallon of honey in August, I was running out. I go through honey like woah. I would never say no to honey. This includes honey scented perfumes!! I haz a sad that all of my honeybees moved out of my cottonwood tree but I have my own hive now and we will hopefully get our apiary going someday. I have a full beekeepers suit and other necessities. I just need to order some bees. I would love to try a new variety of mead and honey! I haven't ever had Avovado Honey and I love trying unusual ones.
Does anyone like postcards? Is anyone willing to be a Nacho witch for postcards?
Yep. I put on the Stalking/Services spreadsheet that I'd be happy to be a postcard minion. I love receiving post cards too.
How do people feel about little pocket shrines, maybe something inspirational/motivational to keep in their purses/backpacks/whatever?
That falls into the range of knick-knacks for me. I don't carry around a lot of stuff and don't want to carry around a lot of stuff. I already have enough with my ipad, knitting, lip balm, etc. However, again, if it were completely customized for me with gargoyles, purple, grey, stripes, NMBC or whatever, I would probably squee like a little girl over it. So YMMV.
How do you feel about maple syrup?
Yes! I don't like fake-y syrup like Aunt Jemina or whatever it is that people use. I only use real maple syrup. (and I don't shop in large grocery stores, I stick to co-ops and small natural ones most of the time, so I am really behind on normal grocery store food.)
Do you like Star Wars? Original Trilogy? Prequels? Spin-offs? Favorite characters?
I am old enough that I can say I watched them all when they were new in theatres. I would watch them again, and I have. Many times. But I am really not the hugest fan of Star Wars OR Star Trek but I don't hate them either.
I have a question, mainly general, and not witching related, but I have a few things that I do every Switch Witch round, would you find that boring and unoriginal? It's not like the entire package is the same all the time, but there are a few things that I try to include in every SW package I've done.
It's not boring and unoriginal. It's TRADITION! (Wait, wait, he always waves at the gate.)
Doctor Who? Yay or nay? (please don't make me cry by saying nay)
I'm watching it on Netflix right now! (starting with the ninth Doctor.) I get bored at work and watch a lot of Netflix.
If my witchee is a fan, would they like a couple Doctor Who stickers in their package?
Sure! And someone mentioned Game of Thrones! Yes yes!
Do you like beef jerkey, I know some may be vegatarian, but where I live beef is a staple and beef jerkey abounds.
Flove beef jerky but not pepper. Regular, teriyaki, brown sugar, go for it. If it's encrusted in pepper? Not so much.
Also do you like or racier ecards from time to time and do you need to be warned if something may be not safe to open at work?
I do actually do most of my updating and stuff at work, so if there is nudity I should probably be warned.
Team Tofu?
yes. I usually prefer to get tofu over meat at mongolian places and love tofu in my soup at thai places. I'm not vegetarian now but I was one for many years. I'm open to lots of tofu things.
Anyone love Buffy/Angel?
me me me. Wedon fan here. Firefly, yes!
Witchee: How would you feel about gummies? Like, gummy bears? Gummy werewolves? Gummy vampires?
Most gummies are full of corn syrup, so that is a no no no.
Witchee: How would you feel about a totally original Gela-skin for your laptop/iPod/phone? Stickers? Decals?
There is a TIPPR deal right now for skinit.com that I am seriously contemplating purchasing ($15 for $30 worth) because I want NMBC, PotC, and Alice skins for my laptop, ipad, and iphone. I haven't ever looked at Gela skin because Skinit already has the perfect ones. There are, like everything else in the world that I want, on my amazon wishlist. I'm a virgo. I organize. Anything I see that I want? I use the universal wishlist button and stick it on my Amazon wishlist. Seriously. And the wishlist is all broken down into categories.
Since this is a Halloween round, what's your Creepy threshold? Are you a cartoon bats and smily pumpkins person or a skulls-and-bones the-dead-are-rising kind of person? Are your fairytales dark or Disney?
Please no pumpkins. I am not a fan of orange. And I don't really like cutesy ghosts but I'll take anything raven, bat, or skull related, cutesy or not. I collect gargoyles and display gargoyles & skulls all year long; our boat is named The Jolly Roger complete with accompanying graphics. The DBF is named Roger and is incredibly positive and upbeat, so really it just fits. I love decorating with gravestones too. And I have skull cookie jars, salt & pepper shakers, skeleton hand salad tongs, silverware shaped like bones, etc. ALL YEAR. I collect NMBC stuffs and when I was at Disneyland I *really* wanted the Nightshade jar. Maybe I'll pick it up when I go back to California this October. My fairy tales are both dark and disney. Maleficent! How can you go wrong with black, purple, and dragons? I have Maleficent MAC makeup stuff.
Are your ears pierced, Witchee? Do you have any other piercings? Would you like to receive any items of jewelry for these piercings?
Yes, I have double piercings in my ear lobes (I had more up to the top of my ear but I let them all close.) And my tongue is pierced. I'd kind of like to do my nipples again but the first time they never healed and it was a pita always cleaning the crusties off and adjusting my jewelry 500x a day (I'm sure people thought I was just playing with myself.) I wouldn't say no to another tongue barbell since I only have one that is plain surgical steel. I have a TON of cool body piercing wishes on my Amazon wishlist, sizes included. Other than that, I only do studs in my ears so please no dangly earrings of any sort (unless they are on my wishlist specifically.)
How do you all feel about Whoopie Pies?
meh.
Are you looking for a certain kind of DVDs to spruce up your collection right now?
I am always looking for my fav movies on DVD. I have a huge amazon DVD wishlist and I don't mind getting burned dvds.
Anyone going to see any good concerts this fall?
I have never seen Duran Duran (GASP, I know since I loved them growing up) and my BFF is giving me two tickets for next Friday! woo!
Wonderland tea
I purchased some of the Wonderland Mad Tea Party blend when I was at Disney in May. I'd love to try some of the other Disney tea blends, but I'll be (hopefully) going back in the last full week of October so if I don't receive any before then, I'll probably buy some for myself. Now... if my Witch could somehow hook me up with a reservation to Club 33 (HA HA HA! I KNOW! But I saw some people mention in the Disney thread that their company has a membership... so it can't hurt to ask. I'd like to see how they've changed from 20 years ago when I was last there!) or hook me up with some discounted 1 day passes to Disney and Universal, that would ROCK. I can get slightly discounted passes from "perkspot" but it's really not that great of a discount.
oh WITCHEE (not that i have you yet) would you be interested in something like this?
https://lostcrates.com/how-it-works
Er, no. Thanks.
how do you feel about lip balm?
Love it!
Favorite style (twist up tube, pot, tube with wand, etc.)?
- I prefer the regular size tubes. I hate the little tiny tubes that Haunt has. Oval or round are both ok. No tins please.
Favorite flavors?
- In the Better Botanicals I like the Rose Mint, Ginger, or Cardamom. Otherwise I generally like honey, rose, chai, vanilla, jasmine, and I can deal with mint. Lime might be fun.
Flavors to avoid?
- Chocolate in general. Not a huge fan of orange, grape, cherry, strawberry, or most fruit when it comes to B&B scents.
Favorite brand?
- Lately my favorite brands are Bunny Butt Apothecary (in my etsy wishlist) and I would LOVE some of the Better Botanicals Lip Balm, which I have linked in my Amazon Bath & Body wishlist. Better Botanicals is one of my FAVORITE EVER but my co-op no longer carries it. I can deal with Burt's Bees honey lip balm. I have a bunch of tubes from "The Morbid the Merrier" on my etsy favorites as well; they used to have the tiny tubes but it looks like they have regular ones now. I'd like Haunt if they didn't have the tiny tubes. I haven't tried Haus of Gloi balm but I was eyeing their Rose flavor. I'm also really interested in trying the vanilla rose cacao lip balm from Flying Bird Botanicals (favorited on etsy) along with their drinking cacao.
Brands to avoid?
- I *just* bought some Starborn Alchemy balm and it is grainy. Ick. I hate grainy lip balm. It's also on the "Too slick" side for me; I like buttery over oily. I also DO NOT LIKE "my lip stuff" - again, they are too slick & oily with not enough solid butters or beeswax or something.
Do you need more right now or are you set?
- yes I need more!
Are you one of those people who could never have enough lip balm even though you have a bowl on your dresser overflowing with them and 10 in your purse and an order for more on the way?
- I usually order a bunch and then order more when I'm on the last tube. But I don't think I could have enough unless by some chance it didn't have any preservatives and the oil went bad.
Would you be interested in getting fountain pen inks or art supplies via JetPens and or DickBlick?
- No thanks
How do you feel about getting art supplies in general?
- Not interested unless by "art supplies" you are including yarn or knitting supplies.
How do you feel about Threadless tshirts?
- No thanks.
If I were to let you loose with $20 in a drug store (CVS, Walgreens, etc - basically a pharmacy with an attached mini-mart), what would you get?
- I rarely set foot in such places since I generally get things in bulk at Costco or shop at Co-ops. If I do stop by it's usually because I NEED cough drops or cold medicine, feminine products (although I usually make the boy go buy them for me, srsly!), anti-perspirant,a card for someone, or something that might be on sale such as Fair Scone mix or Pike Place Market tea. (Our Bartells always has interesting food things on sale. My favorite is the Pacific Creamy Tomato Soup that comes in a box.) If someone wants a particular kind of halloween or christmas candy then I tend to go in to a drug store. Or, duh, if I need a prescription of some sort. The last time I went into a drug store it was to purchase an eyeglasses screwdriver because my frakkin fairly freaking expensive sunglass screws keep unthreading. I need to put some super glue on them and screw them in with that. Most of the drug stores around here don't have B&B products that the co-ops have. Or high end chocolate. Although Bartells does carry the Seattle Chocolate Company stuff, and their San Juan bars/truffles are pretty good.
Darling Witchee, would you enjoy farmer's market pickled veggies (green beans, garlic, asparagus, etc) or fresh canned peaches or something of that nature?
Dill pickles and garlic! Yum! Although from experience, things like this are really heavy and hard to mail so I would understand if I don't get any. I love honey from markets too. And rose or lavender jelly! The West Seattle Farmer's market has spiced blackberry wine -- I keep wanting to go get (another) bottle but it's soooo hard to get to West Seattle by 11am on Sunday.
Do you prefer color or white photographs? Nature or abstract?
As a framed photo? I probably prefer black/white. I have a bunch favorited on etsy if you want to look. But again, I don't really have room for artwork right now. I wish I could put a bunch up -- it would be things like gravestones, gargoyles, crows, skeletal winter trees, etc.
I may be going to the Chiles & Frijoles Festival this weekend. I'm not really sure what all I'll find (doesn't that sound promising), but I'm guessing lots of chiles and pinto beans and related things. Interested?
Er. If they have the sweethots type chilies, yes!
Amigurumi, yes or no?
YES... as you can tell by my Ravelry Queue & favorites, assuming you have stalked me that far.
What are some of your favorite paintings? (famous or undiscovered?) Feel free to link to examples!
How about favorite prints? Omar Rayyan's "The Favorite" Jasmin Becket-Griffith's prints, especially the Notre Dame fairy/gargoyles such as The Secret of Notre Dame. I wish that Phantomwise still had her black/white tarot series in the etsy shop because I have always coveted The Lovers. There are some awesome etsy artists who do Pit Bull stuff to benefit rescue, such as this one. I've always liked Michael Parkes' Gargoyles. I was lucky enough to see the Van Gogh exhibit at the Smithsonian when I was visiting some friends in DC in 1999 or thereabouts - my favorites were Starry Night over the Rhone and Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette. Starry Night is nice too but isn't my favorite; I do like the swirls and colors but I wouldn't really want a print of it. I have a cool framed print from winning a contest at PhotoWOW. Here's Jake modeling with it, since it is of him! I'm sure there are more but that is just what I can think of now.
If you could have an image painted for you - sky is the limit - what would it be?
Hm. Hard to say. I love all sorts of things. Maybe my dogs looking at gargoyle-y with bat wings. This is my one of my favorite photos of Jake and Lela from a Bev Sparks photoshoot (www.dogphotography.com.) I've been considering ordering a much larger print of it (I only have a small photo.)
Would you like any ecotools makeup brushes?
I'm pretty set right now for makeup brushes.
Do you like Legos? Especially mini-fig key chains, Lego block keychains, small Lego sets, etc?
Nope.
Three Favorite Kinds of Tea:
Pretty sure this has been asked and answered already, but THIS WEEK it is:
1. Mariage Freres BUTTERSCOTCH black tea.
2. Aveda "The Tea"
3. Anise flavored black tea.
(If we're talking about bubble tea, I prefer the Honey Milk Tea. Or Lavender. Or Jasmine. Or Rose. I like tapioca pearls.)
Three Favorite Scents of Candles THIS WEEK.
1. Witches Brew from Yankee
2. Spiced Vanilla from Colonial Candles of Cape Cod (aka PartyLite)
3. Patchouli. (See #1.)
what would you do if you found a $50 bill on the ground and a nagging voice in the back of your mind told you that you HAD to spend it on BPAL or else face Death. Also, say they had free shipping (LOL) so don't factor that in. What would you get? And spend it all! Or as close to $50 as you can get.
Sprinklecakes and Halloween: Las Vegas. Maybe an imp or two of the new GC's.
Thai & Ethiopian. I like Pad Thai just fine but my favorite noodle dish is Phat Si Io (also, Pad See Ew or Pad Si Ew) -- I freaking love the huge soft hand shaved noodles that most (good) places use.
I also flove (vegetarian) ethiopian food. My favorite place ever is a little hole in the wall in Denver - they had the BEST ethiopian coffe and coffee ritual. I had a favorite place in Dallas too, I can only remember the name because it seems to be super common for Ethiopian places -- Queen of Sheba. (The Queen of Sheba in Seattle is not a place I will go again. ptooie.)
So what say you? IS an "unexpected" visit/in-person witching OK?
I would say no. Sometimes it's hard for me to get myself into a frame of mind in which I am able to be social with other people. And my house sucks, I don't really ever want anyone to see it unless I have lots of time to clean first. It takes me a long time to let my walls down enough to be comfortable with someone unless they get me drunk, in which case all bets are off. (Or if I have a security blanket, sometimes in human form, with me.) I guess I am sometimes really good at pretending that I don't have social anxiety but... I do. Usually Will Call is a safe bet if you want to meet me, although I am not usually being social, I am usually being a minion and fetching things. Although if you wanted to meet AFTER the round at Knows Perfume or for coffee or drinks, that would be cool. Especially if I could drag my boyfriend or other people along to ease my anxiety.
Is there something that you wish you could do, but you keep putting it off?
Of course! Go back to school is one. Skydiving. Dancing. Exercising!! Traveling. Knitting ALL the things. Cleaning. Painting the upstairs and getting new carpet. Putting away or getting rid of all of the things in the house that we don't want that belonged to R's dad. Unpacking the shed with all of MY belongings and getting them put away in the house, especially my books, bookshelves, and gargoyles. Planting a knot garden. Getting more roses. Fixing the yard so the soil would be good enough for herbs/roses. Acquiring a horse again. More quad riding. Getting my motorcycle endorsement. Learning to play piano and/or guitar. Winning the lottery. Being more social. Going to Farmers Markets. Painting my BPAL boxes or having someone paint them for me. I could go on and on and on. All I really do is work, sleep, work, sleep, watch netflix, occasionally knit, read, and sometimes go out on weekends when I'm not sleeping or reading.
Put your current mp3player (I am the anti-apple, so no ipod ), winamp playlist, what have you, on shuffle, list the first 10 songs:
How about the LAST 10 songs from my iphone shuffle? (ok, 11 because I can't count and went back too far.)
1. Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars
2. Duran Duran, The Chauffeur
3. David Bowie, China Girl
4. Crowded House, Chocolate Cake
5. Coldplay, Clocks
6. The Art of Noise, Close (to the Edit)
7. The Cure, Close to Me
8. Tears for Fears, Closest Thing to Heaven
9. Kate Bush, Cloudbusting
10. Depeche Mode, Comatose
11. The Crystal Method, Coming' Back
Do you have any interest in rocks? Not like, polished colorful stones.. but like... rocks. With geologic significance!
I like druzy quartz type rocks... geodes... sometimes I pick up cool rocks. I like gemstones, polished or not. But just like a hunk of basalt? er. not unless it had some personal meaning.
If your witch were to knit you a scarf/shawl/cowl, which would you prefer, and what features would you want? Would you prefer something light and drape-y or thick and warm? What kind of colors would you prefer? Do you have any fiber allergies or preferences?
I like super elongated scarf shawls. Like Hitchhiker or Trillian! I think most of Martina's patterns are elongated. I prefer purple, black, blue, blurple. I am allergic to acrylic. I prefer merino, merino cashmere, merino silk, etc. I am a total yarn snob. (Ignore the non-snobby yarns on there from Michaels or Jo-Anns, most of those were gifts or things I'll use for people who don't mind non-snobby yarn.)
AND DANG IT. THIS ENTRY IS FULL!! I HAD TO MAKE A SECOND ENTRY!!
