I kind of liked Scar from the Lion King, but mostly for his voice. I don't know that Disney has really had any outstandingly amazing villains. They're kind of all cut from the same mold. I did always like Ursula because of the whole octopus thing. And Yzma from Emperor's New Groove was pretty good, though mostly because her plots got foiled due to other's incompetence. Favorite villain ever though? Scorpius from Farscape. Favorite hero/heroine... maybe Lilo because she's so funny in her own little bubble and totally unfazed by aliens, fish that tell the weather, etc. But also a fan of Mulan because she's kind of bad-ass. Favorite hero ever? Mmmm... not sure.

I don't know that I'd want a scent to remind me of where I live. I kind of hate where I live. It's all hot, dry, and polluted. I'd like a scent that captured places I've lived that I loved, though, like Oregon (lush old growth forests, vibrant greens, and rainfall) or Konstanz (warm summer days in the grass by the lake, the Alps in the background, and a slightly ancient feeling of the town).

Errr... no idea. I'd kind of start to think about it, but then my thoughts would stray to the fact that dating someone famous would be really kind of obnoxious. I mean, papparazzi? Attention if you go out? gossip columns and shit like that? My friends always say I think too much about things. Like when I was camping this squirrel came up to us and I was all "Ehhh, it's kinda cute," but then I thought about the posted signs saying the rodents may carry plague, which is usually spread by fleas. So that squirrel has fleas... and what other parasites? What is the parasite load of that squirrel? What percent of its body weight? In the end my conclusion is fuzzy squirrel = carrier of disease and parasites. Same goes for deer. People are all "I want to feed/touch the deer!" and I'm all, "Get the deer away from me! They carry parasites!" So yeah... my fantasies get ruined by my overactive sense of reality.

Where was your last vacation? What did you like most?

The last vacation where I took time off was very recently. I went to Point Arena for abalone population surveys with Fish & Game. Although the diving was pretty bad, I had a good time. And then this last weekend I was camping at Lake Tahoe, which is just under 2 hours from where I live. What I liked most about both places was being outdoors so much and like... all the time. I'm back and feeling... itchy and constrained by this whole being indoors thing. Also, I miss the fresh, cool air. It's so nice to fall asleep snug and warm, but breathing cold air. And then being outside and not feeling like death and suffocation is always a great thing. And, strange as it may sound, the lack of electricity wasn't disturbing and just made everything better, somehow. Cooking food with others was really nice, especially over a campfire for camping. OK, to sum up what I liked most: being outdoors all the time and being away from technology. I'm actually kind of really sick of tech and indoor shelter.

I like candles a lot and I think the Yankee candles smell amazing, though they're a bit on the spendy side. I am not familiar with the scents available, but my candle preferences are a lot like my perfume preferences, though I do tend a bit more towards lush tropicals and fruits and heavily incense smelling candles.

 

If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most?

Oh, it's so hard to pick just one. I love cats most of all, I think, and my favorite type of cat is the ocelot. They're so like housecats, but like... 3 times as big, and so graceful and gorgeous. Every Xmas we go to the PDX zoo and I always get to see at least one of the ocelots. <3

It's hard to say. I was raised on proto-PCs and PCs and own a laptop that's a PC and runs XP. It's what I'm most comfortable with and I can do quite a lot of my own problem solving and fixing. But I absolutely hate Windows Vista and Windows 7 and have a hard time using them. My work computer is a Mac and it's kind of trying at times because it's just different but I'm getting accustomed. I would probably go with a Mac laptop if I needed another one. I'm also a big iPhone/iPod fan.

 

Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices?

I don't have a spice cabinet. I have a collection of stuff near the stove that sometimes, occasionally, rarely gets used. Black pepper gets the most use, but the curry powder and cayenne pepper also get used a fair bit. I also own cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 or 3 others but I don't use them very often and can't remember what I have. It's not really enough to be a collection.

 

Would you like something you have to make yourself?

If it's like... origami, cooking, or baking then yes. Or like, mix these powders together and then add water or something. If it's like knitting I will forget about it and never finish it after a week, and if it's sewing I will be useless at it.

 

What kind of make-up do you wear? What colors? Is there anything you'd like to try but haven't yet?

I guess when I said anything about make up before I wasn't actually specific about what I do use when I do. I mostly just use the bare minerals face foundation powder stuff and sometimes some mascara. On the rare occasion that I can get my shit together in the morning, I do use some darker brown eyeliner. But I'm not really good with make up at all, like no one has ever taught me. And online tutorials just confuse me. I'd kind of like to learn how to make a good smokey eye, or what's appropriate/acceptable for daily wear and how to do nice eye make up for daily wear.

 

Is there anything from the 'Ween BPTP update that you would like but haven't ordered for yourself?

Honestly, I find the year-round wares of the BPTP more tempting than the LE stuff they have right now. The Ginger Skulls perfume oil sounds like it might have some potential, but it's not really screaming at me, yanno? Same for the Tricksy bath oil. Halloween: New Orleans atmospray does sound really nice, but I'm kind of on the fence about that.

 

What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc?

No thanks. "vintage" implies a certain older fashion/style, and I'm not into that kind of style.

OMG those are like... my 3 favorites there in my drawer. Which one to use for this task? Yeah, I'm a little crazy. I prefer more contemporary sort of designs, like abstract, and bright. But cutsey things like fish or turtle or bubble motifs or so are nice. I'm not really into flowers or hearts though, but I do like stars, swirls, helices, shapes, etc.

If by "not right" you mean "it looks great, but has imperfections that you really can't tell unless you look close or know what you're looking for/at" or "it tastes good but it's not exactly what I was aiming for, but still tasty!" or "looks good but the measurements/proportions are just slightly off" then that is totally cool. But if you mean like... these cookies turned out to be cement cookies, then, no thanks. Basically, if you would use it or eat it yourself, I'd be quite happy with it. (And probably not notice unless you told me.)

That's kind of broad and by what standards? Compared to, say, the south I'd probably be considered a foodie. But according to west coast culture I'm not. And I kind of get the impression that New Englanders might have a similar foodie definition as the west coast.

Nope.

I'm too lazy to decorate for holidays, but also too poor to afford decorations. Also, I don't have much storage space and haven't really "settled down" so I'm not really interested in accumulating holiday decorations. Besides, it's just me and the cats.

There aren't that many places I frequent. There is a Borders in my town that would be a nice place to pick out a book or music. I also like Dimple, but that might be too local for someone to find a gift card. Amazon and iTunes are good for books/music. I am kind of addicted to my phone, though I haven't ever actually bought an app, so an iTunes card with permission to buy an app would be awesome. Or music. I LOVE MUSIC. Seriously. Uh, as for food/drink? I kind of limit myself to the nearby cafeterias and little shops, but I love Trader Joe's. I gotta stop there on my way to camping to get some foods.

I have no allergies or sensitivities. I like dark colors, like dark GREEN, dark red, rich mahogany or burgundy or maroon, and the like. On the other hand, a super bright and colorful knitted item would also be kind of fun.

I will be going to the Society for Neuroscience conference which runs from Nov 13-17th. The whole lab is taking a van down, so I may be gone the 12th-18th or something like that, I'm not really sure.

I'm technically a student, though I haven't taken classes since I finished them winter quarter of... 2008. I have taught some classes as a TA at the university... like for the last 3 terms and the next one. I mainly end up teaching upper division genetics courses.

 

When I was an undergrad I took 2 years of college Russian and would love to continue, but to continue would be kind of difficult with finding a course, especially as I wouldn't need to start at the complete beginning. I'm debating taking Spanish this year, though!

Shit. Yes, really. I love the way it sounds.. that soft shhhh start and then the harsh "t" end. And it's just so versatile and usable in so many different ways and situations.

I think it's cool and all, like the clothing, jewelry, LARPing, etc. But it doesn't seem entirely fitting for every day wear and I really have no use for any such accessories. :|

COMIC BOOKS. Do you read them? Are there any series you like, or some you would like to try?

Literally the only one is Farscape. I have all the 4 issue series they have put out, plus the D'Argo extras and I'm now current on the Scorpius series up to #5. I would kind of like the Serenity comics, and the Cthulhu Chronicles sound mildly appealing. If there were some sort of comic form of Avatar the Last Airbender that would totally rock.

 

Warm drinks?

Normally it is too damn hot here for warm drinks. But when it's winter and the temperature drops to a reasonable level I do enjoy hot cider, hot cocoa, and non-caffeinated teas. I do not do well with caffeine.

 

When you go to an etsy wishlist, it will tell you what things are sold. If you click on the sold item, sometimes it will give options that are similar to what was sold, but not identical, would you like the similar item or prefer not to get it at all unless it's the same item? How picky are you?

I'd say about half my etsy favs are just placeholders for me to keep track of what something looked like. Especially if it's a piece of clothing that's fairly expensive. I like to pipe dream that some day I'll be able to sew and make something similar, or have an awesome friend who I can ask to make me clothes or something. On the other hand, if there's a shop that specializes in something, like skirts or soap, I generally favorite the scent(s) I like or the skirt I like out of the 30+ on their storefront. But I would say that yes, overall, the etsy favs are a good general indication of things I like.

 

Do you wear make up?

I try to wake up early enough that I have time to put on some foundation powder and mascara if I remember. The success rate on this is about 30%.

More so the older ones, like Lion King, Little Mermaid, Beauty & Beast, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Not such a fan of newer ones, though Princess & The Frog was a pretty good return to the origins of Disney movies.

I have a DVD player, but I think it once belonged to a former roomie who didn't care to take it with her or something, and it's kind of wussing out lately. I think my PS2 also plays DVDs?

What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do?

I sort of know how to knit, but don't really have the attention span for it. I would loooove to be able to sew, but I'm not entirely sure I have the attention span for that, either. I know glass lampworking and ceramics, but need to get a membership to the school's craft center and, you know, actually go there to do either of those. I'd also kind of like to get supplies and recipes for making my own cosmetics stuffs... lotion, body scrubs, facial masks, etc. not so much to sell cause I do not have the attention span or organizational abilities for that, but just for myself and maybe to pass on to a friend or something.

I have 13 ear piercings and a nose piercing. The only ones that I could use jewelry for would be the lobes, which are 8g and 6g, though I'm always debating stretching them further. I'm a big fan of glasswear studios plugs. Also, my 18g nose could use a new piece or two. I don't know what I would do with stickers though. Oh, and I have 2 tattoos: forepaws from a childhood cat and a turtle with the biohazard symbol as its shell. I'm thinking of other tattoos: perhaps the delta symbol (change) on my neck and/or an arm piece of either DNA or a jellyfish? I reaaaally want another tatt...

OMG I have no idea. It's waaaaay too early for me to have even really thought about it. Do people really plan shit out like this?! My grad group just about always has a Halloween party, so I'll probably be getting dressed up and drinking wherever the party is held. I have no idea what costume I'll have. I usually decide about the day before and go scrambling around for ideas or props or whatnot. Last year I wanted to go as a mouse, cause I thought it would be hilarious to go as my own model organism, but I couldn't find mouse ears or a tail and instead found cat ears and a tail and just went as that.
