Winter Holiday Fun Swap

November 9th   Sooo. Yules. Those just happened. What are you interested in, Bunny?   I ordered three decants and to be honest, I'm not even that interested in them. I mean, enough to order them, but I would be shocked to find any bottle-wants. I am super excited about the trading post, though, and will be stalking oh, most of the Yule Candles. Okay, all but one of them.   Do you like coin purses?   No. I. Just. No. It's. No.   November 8th   Do you prefer dark or milk chocolate?   Depends on what's in it. Good milk chocolate is delightful, but Hersheys, for example, tastes like vomit to me. Dark chocolate is often a safer bet because I almost always like it except for cheap European dark chocolate which is oddly sweet half the time.     November 7th   What are your opinions on traditional holiday cookie flavorings? I'm thinking anise and cardamom in particular.   Nom.   Do you like artisan oils and vinegars?   Nom.   Bunny, could you use a 2012 calendar, and, if so, do you like big monthly ones or the page-a-day type?   My mum always gets me a calendar.   November 6th   Charity gifts? Either fair-trade type stuff, or virtual type gifts, like vaccinations or school supplies being bought on your behalf, or something along those lines?   No. We're actually really picky about the charities we support.   Bunny, are you interested in tarts from Two Timing Tart? What scents, if any, are you interested in?   No.   Do you need any holiday recipies? Is there something in particular that you'd like baked or made for you? And for those of you doing the no sugar/low sugar, etc. thing these days, how about savory things?   I would love some recipes!   Speaking about candles, how much do you look forward to the BPTP candles that will be launched on Etsy? I don't know if there will be other scents than the Samhain and Pumpkin Cookie one, but is there a specific one you are longing for?   OMG. OMG. OMG. SNOW WHITE AND CHOCOLATE GINGERBREAD ESPRESSO AND MIDNIGHT MASS AND YES. But those will probably be up about the time the swap ends, so do not worry about them. <3   Does anyone have issues with gently used things like books, etc.?   No.   Are you a big ol' nerd for any particular subject? Science, math, linguistics, etc? Or particular authors/fandoms?   Yes. We do like the science, I love fairy tales, crafting. We cook a lot with science. You can read my blogue, craftilykimberly.com, so get an idea of my crafty things, but I don't post as often as I should and I'm working on that. I'm doing NaNoBlogMo instead of NaNoWriMo because I know I can succeed at that.   Bunnies, how do you feel about lemon-flavored items, like lemon marmalade, lemon curd, lemon pound cake, or lemon cookies?   Yes.   fingerless mittens or full mitts?   Fingerless with a mitten flap.     November 4th   reveal, yes or no?   No. I really think the mystery is the most important thing in any swap and wish to be secretized forever. Ever knowing who my fox is would just ruin my life.   (And for future stalkers out there, I am just harassing my foxy who accidentally revealed a bit prematurely. I cannot STAND the mystery and if you don't reveal, I will make a list and cross names off and geo-locate everyone based on anything they've ever said on the forum and correlate "just sent" messages to postage stamps and figure out who you are.)   Any favorite cuddly characters? Not particularly, but I am learning to see the way of Tony and Steve being adorbs.   Moxie Nouveau groupon? I would use it if it happened, but I would not go out of my way for it.   what's your favourite colour? Jewel and earth tones   Your favourite gemstone? Garnets. My engagement ring is a green one (tsavorite) and my right hand ring is three red ones. They are the only stones I wear every day. Sometimes I throw in other stuff, but if we're being honest...   Your favourite animal (real or imaginary)? The bolifur of course! (Our ginger cat, Willow, who also goes by the bolifur)   And do you have any intense phobias? Since you can't make me stand six feet off the ground, none that you care about. (Super high heights do not bother me. Flying? No big. But god forbid I end up a few feet up.)   Are you Nano-ing this month, bunny? If so, how would you feel about merch/donations to the cause? I was. I failed. I'm doing a blog post a day instead. I always support merch/donations to that cause.   Do you like/need boxes for perfume/knicknacks? I love boxes. Boxes and I are friends that go way back. Waaaaay back. BFFs for life.   November 2nd   Is there any particular holiday DVD that you don't have that you would like to own?   Not really.   How do you feel about superheros? Are you a Marvel or DC fan? Do you have a favorite hero? I do have access to an actual Lush store, and also wouldn't mind ordering retro items online.   No? I mean, I never turn down good bath stuff, but I've never tried Lush. There. I said it. I've never tried Lush.   would you like a Paintbox from Paintbox Soapworks? If so, which scents? Comfort and Joy Frnkn, Gld and Mrrh   Do you have kids (or kid-like pets) who your fox may want to take into account, either in terms of a little extra goody or simple safety?   NO. Well, it shouldn't kill a cat, but we're childree.   How do you feel about honey/beeswax? Would you like any?   Shrug. I would be excited if you sent it and not disappointed if you didn't and this is my overall opinion on things for swaps for the most part. It's not that I'm totally ambivalent so much as I like surprises and I like almost everything.   Are you a Trader Joe's fan, who either doesn't have a store nearby or just loves their stuff and has a wishlist?   This is our regular store, so...   The Paintbox Soapworks Yules are up, or at least round one is (updates coming throughout the week). Interested in anything?   Comfort and didn't I just answer this? I like sorbettos the best.   If I were to place ONE LAST Weenie order, (uh, which I will) what would you want me to include for you?   No.   Will you be away for any part of the round?   Yes. I wish you could make Kindle lists public and yet I would be so embarrassed.   If you like Christmas music (or any other holiday music, for that matter), what kind of style do you like? Traditional? If I can learn about new things, I am delighted to have or try them. If they are not new, it is unlikely, unless you have ignored my warnings about headache inducing strong florals, that I will actually dislike it. I am not the pickiest. Really. OMFG: UPDATE. I saved enough GCs and change and I got that camera I was babbling on and on and on about! I'm so, so, so excited!   What web comics do you enjoy? Something Positive, Punch an Pie, Queen of Wands (I miss it!), Girls with Slingshots, XKCD, and I feel like there are a few more I check when I remember to, but can't think of now.   My witch, I think you can tell that I answer these bottom up, because I got a bit more interesting as I went this time.   9/17/10 Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd’s that you’ve been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Nope   Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? Does it work? If it works, I don't mind. If it doesn't work, um, my witch has a strange sense of humor. I really don't want the theme to be "hilariously sending you lots of broken things to see what happens". Just sayin'   Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Nope.   Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Sure, if my witch wants to make one. I wouldn't want one enough that it is worth tracking someone else down to make one, but would totally appreciate one from my witch. I think a custom altered item like that is special between maker and receiver. Not the same if it's not my witch.   Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? Wide and long, please!   Don't like scarves? I love knick-knacks. I really, really do. But I'm moving in a year. And I hate moving. I'm a ruthless thrower-outer because I just... hate packing things. So while I like cute things, and totally collect lots of them, if you see something perfect send away...   Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? I second the Hunger Games, actually. Or fifth it or whatever. Otherwise, the Kindle has been the WORST enabler EVER in this area. Do not get one unless you want to accidentally spend all your money ever on books. "Oh, I wonder if this has a sequel? Oh, I'll just get them all... I mean, I'm going to do it eventually anyway..." Gah!   Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favourite? Would you like to receive managas or anything related to them? No, sorry.   Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Of course!   If you have something on a wishlist that we could craft INSTEAD of buying, though it might not end up identical to the wishlist thing, would it be okay to craft it instead? Obviously we don't want to copy anyone else's design, but if we can replicate the flavour or intent that you like without stepping on toes? CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. Or you could buy it, but my lists are really mostly a guideline of things I like, I fully welcome your crafting skills.   OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? Knee please!   How do people feel about word magnets. I have waaaaay too many.   If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? Holy crapoli, SO MANY. To make it easier, I'll just take all of Inara's clothing.   How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. That's cool to things that aren't perfume, but I really do my best to limit my perfume addiction to BPAL. Though certain enablers make that harder and harder.   What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I might test some things next weekend then figure it out. Nothing look a-maz-ing to me. It made me sad.   Chocolate or other types of candy? Chocolate forever!   For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? Loose leaf   If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? Oh god, a shawl with a hood? I'd love you forever. I tried one on this summer and only the price tag ($300) kept me from keeping it forever.   Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike?   Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? My kitchen is really fully stocked.   Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? Herbs usually. Thyme, we use a lot of thyme and rosemary. I like ivy around the house, lavender in the garden, and daisies. I love daisies. Oh and this one time, Daniel got me some purple, almost black calla lily type things. So beautiful.   More 9-13: Do you crave many Ecards and contact or are you okay with little contact from your Witch? I love contact. Contact me as much as you like. Wanna be a ninja? That's cool too.   Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? No, but the stuff on my WL is all the GC stuff I haven't tried that doesn't have a note of doom. Even if it didn't really sound super yums.   Do you like maple sugar candy? Not really.   What is your position on the chocolate & bacon flavor combination? No. Just no.   If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot? I am, but I have them. My mommy made them.   Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? Salt, pepper & cinnamon most likely.   Microsoft or Apple? Yes, both.   Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? My fiance and I went to Madison, WI because we didn't know anyone there. I liked driving in the car with him. And being alone with him -- we both live with housemates and I'm at school while he works, so we're 800 miles apart most of the time.   Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? Yes! I send them at times. For a while all my card swap cards were handmade postcards, but then I quit thinking I was finally moving up in the world to some nice, nice postcards only to find out that people actually liked the homemade ones.   Do you hate any food things with a passion?? Coriander. But I like cilantro. Weird, yeah? Also not hot on... I can't think. I'll try to come back to this later. Fake fruit flavors. Don't like those.   Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? I love trees. I still want physical magazines. I like flipping through them, tossing 'em in a thing and going, and also I like cutting things out of them (see: homemade postcards)   9/13/10 what interests you from the latest lab update? This is actually really horrible -- I got imps of everything I was into and none of it worked for me. I had such, such high hopes for Lamb's Wool and nothin'.   How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? Pens! I love pens! I like classic stuff. I also like nice paper. Pens and paper.   Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam?) Uh, yeah. Of course.   If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Love 'em.   Would you like something you have to make yourself? Wouldn't hate it, that's for sure. I like kits. With instructions.   Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? You should totally make it! It means more that way. I mean, buying is awesome, but making adds that little something extra.   Who is your favorite soap etailer? Savor, but I'm interested in Tarty's soaps.   What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? I collect tea cups with saucers. I'm sure I've mentioned it. I'm sure I have. Tea cups. But other vintage decoration items would be intriguing as well.   With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? I play TF2 on the xBox AND on my PC (I just got the TF2 mug from ThinkGeek!), I like L4D, but have not played L4D2 yet.   How do you all feel about flowers and plants? Flower and plant seeds? Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? I love gardening, but with the amount of moving I do, seeds are just not something that would work out. But the rest of that sounds lovely.   How do you feel about marzipan? I don't like nuts unless they are adding texture to a baked good. I really don't like almonds at all. These are lifelong issues of mine. But marzipan is connected to one of the funniest things my mom has ever done to me: My mom got me an almond flavored cake with marzipan instead of frosting for graduation. It wasn't easy to find -- she went to a LOT of trouble for it. So I rallied and ate a piece. It wasn't, you know, the worst day of my life but later (much later, polite distance later) when I was like, "Um, you know I've always hated nuts, right?" she said, "I know -- that's why I got you almonds! Almonds aren't nuts!"   If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Snow White (I had an imp, thought I didn't like it, frimped it, and then later started craving it -- worst frimping ever), Snake Charmer (some lovely lady frimped me this and I can't decide if I love her or hate her for it since I joined too late to be in on the res), some aged smut -- I have some from the 2010 round, but it just isn't the same as my aged imp.   Are there any international treats that you love and have a hard time finding? Studentska fruit and nut bars in milk chocolate from the Czech Republic. If you actually managed to find this, I'd probably want to marry you. I look for them EVERYWHERE, and they are SO. I took it home and cleaned it. 9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? NO. THE MEMORIES. THE HORROR. When I was in sixth grade we went to a garlic festival at an otherwise lovely dining establishment. Everything was over-garlicky, but my sister and I are all, "Well, at least there is dessert and that will be nom and not garlic." Vanilla ice cream with garlic honey sauce. First of all, it's the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. Second of all, I'm kind of scarred for life when it comes to "garlic" and "unusual".   Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? Generally, they are hilarious. I loved Zombieland after the first 15 minutes of too violent/gross for me. I'm such a girl that way. However the things like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? I ADORE them in concept. In execution, the author is so pitifully below Jane Austen's writing style and level that I can't actually stand to read them.   9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? No kids. No problems.   In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Okay, seriously, a hooded shawl. But if not that, then gloves are divine. Especially if you leave the fingers off. I have a smart phone, so I like to muck about with it even in winter.   How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? How do you feel about shimmer?   Something lightly tinted, I think. Shimmer is great. I'm not a huge fan of lipgloss/lipstick/tinted balms, but just got in to making my own, so I am perfecting my recipe. If you have a recipe here, I'd love to try it since mine are still coming out harder than I'd like.   Are there any fancy/gourmet/special herbs or spices that you'd love to receive? ie: good quality vanilla or other extracts, vanilla beans, saffron, lavender, etc.   Well. The pirates ship out to sea and let the ninjas deal with the zombies. They find a beautiful island and stay there. When they finally get bored and decide to wander back, the ninjas have won out over the zombies, but there are very few left. Pirates swiftly take control.   Do you like wearing things in your hair? They're kinda one of my favorite things ever, and they're animal-friendly and the handles are bamboo. And to top it all off, they work really well for applying makeup.   Cool. What are your favorite scents?   Yes. Yes I do. I prefer cones or sticks at the moment. I've been working lately on mixing my own resins and ruffage to make incense, so any key tools (especially binders for making cones) would be super appreciated. The icky stuff in the charcoal brickettes that most people use for loose incense makes me feel a little bit off, even if I'm burning it in a well ventilated room. So. Yeah. - Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you?   Ravenclaw. You can see from the Pottermore thread that I was officially sorted into Ravenclaw. I also feel a strong affinity for Slytherin, but my nerdiness overtakes my ambition any day.   - If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from?   Amazon, Sockdreams, I WISH there were general Etsy giftcards. That would be SO helpful. Amazon or Sockdreams mostly, I think. Or Paintbox Soapworks if you can work that out with her. Anywhere else I tend to go either doesn't do gift cards or you'd kind of need to be in the Chicago area to get them.   Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to?   Yes. Um. There are lots. But the most helpful thing for you, I think, is to know that I LOVE mythos and fairy tales and would love to read new ones or learn about new ones or see cool interpretations of old ones or whatever you feel up to. Also that I tend to like older versions of the various stories when it comes to fairy tales. When I can, I'll look for older-than-Grimm ones because it's just kind of cool to see how they've changed and to look and see what Grimm-era folks found appropriate vs inappropriate to write. Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters?   I like them. My fiance's ex-housemate/best friend just donated a drawer full to me to read. I like Fables a lot. I have Sandman-fancy-pants edition which I LOVE (and also Sandman regular edition and I've gone through several times and compare the artwork and whatnot). Anyway, the point is: I like them. I'd like exploring new ones. And other than Fables and Sandman and Transmetropolitan, I can't think of any off the top of my head that I have read.   Are you musical? I think an imp of Autumn Cider would be tempting. I'm blind-buying a bottle of Golden Apple of the Sun and the foodie forum onlies.   Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands?   So I was super, super into nail polish in middle and high school. Then in college, it just totally dropped off my radar. I'm recently getting back into it. So far I have London Butter (in their awesome dark green color -- British Racing green or whatever it is) & BPTP's Maiden (which is totally unusual for me, I'm not a pink kind of girl). I'm hoping for the Trading Post to update with new colors because I want their dark green and their dark blue (I actually have a really terrible "I'm waiting for the TP's dark blue, dark blue that is chippy as hell). I also want their bronze and also probably smokestack. Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw...   I really like travel candles (they come in little tins) and candles that are about that size. Last year I was mildly attractive Link (from Zelda). What is your favorite fairy tale, persona, or motif? What imagery does the story/person/thing evoke for you? Do you like or hate how it was handled by a movie or show? How about illustrations and pictures on the subject? Any you are particularly in love with?   I think I answered this at length in the thread.   How are you with ethically sourced (read: found in the woods on the ground, on the beach, etc.) formerly living bits? Examples: feathers, butterfly wings, fossilized teeth/bone, clean-but-not fossilized bone.   Go for it!   Would you rather have half of something that was super fabulous in conception, but ultimately too much to pull off completely in the time frame(although still fully functional?   Yes.
