Art Swap Questions

What is your favorite fairy tale, persona, or motif? What imagery does the story/person/thing evoke for you? Do you like or hate how it was handled by a movie or show? How about illustrations and pictures on the subject? Any you are particularly in love with?   I think I answered this at length in the thread.   How are you with ethically sourced (read: found in the woods on the ground, on the beach, etc.) formerly living bits? Examples: feathers, butterfly wings, fossilized teeth/bone, clean-but-not fossilized bone.   Go for it!   Would you rather have half of something that was super fabulous in conception, but ultimately too much to pull off completely in the time frame(although still fully functional?   Yes. Do what you want and then send it my way.   Is there something specifically in fairytales you do NOT want to see?   Really, really graphic violence and incest.   And would you be limited to the idea of 'fairytales' or would you be happy with crossing over into 'origin stories' or 'mythology'?   DO IT.   If you've mentioned that purple is a favorite color, which shades do you prefer?   Jewel tones -- so vivid but darkish.   If in your questionnaire you talked about different styles or listed a number of favorite stories, now that we've been talking about the subject, has anything sort of popped into your head as a "you know I REALLY wish my artist would do something with X story/theme/subject/style." ?   I do like Art Deco and Art Nouveau, but I would also really like whatever style you are most comfortable with. I'd rather have a piece you are comfortable and confident making than something you bent over backwards to make in a style I like, but weren't as comfortable in. I'd like to see your expertise.   How do you feeel about nudity?   I'm not opposed.   How do you feel about more practical crafty kinds of things, rather than more traditional "art"? Like would you be ok with a decorated box or bag, or something like that?   I would love it.   Would you like a retold fairy tale (in poem or story form) written by your artist as part of your swap?   Sure!   How do you feel about receiving a recipe of some sort based off your faerie tale of choice?   Yessssss.   Or say a meal plan you could do for a day or like a dinner party or something?   Okay, yes, this would be fun.   How do you feel about anime in general?   I'm down with it.   What kind of bodyshapes appeal to you in pin up art, male and female?   Curvy, but realistic lady shapes.   How do you feel about excerpts in your art? Like teas, bacon caramels, soap?   Sure!   Would you enjoy a wearable item? something hand knit by chance?   I'd love it. The asker of this question sent me a pair of wrist warmers last year and I wear them ALL THE TIME. She's a fantastic knitter.   New As of 11 Feb: What kinds of things do you like to eat?   All kinds of things. We're serious foodies. Oh, except not mushroom-truffles. Those kind of taste like feet to me. No matter how I have 'em, then end up just being gross. And I love mushrooms. But bllerrrrgh.   If you were my patron, is there are particular animal (or animals, or animal tale) from a faerie tale/myth/modern tale/legend that you love or emphasize with?   No.   New As of 12 Feb:   Do you have a particular house color palette? I think I already said this -- we have a very nice neutral light taupe wall color. OMFG: UPDATE. I saved enough GCs and change and I got that camera I was babbling on and on and on about! I'm so, so, so excited!   What web comics do you enjoy? Something Positive, Punch an Pie, Queen of Wands (I miss it!), Girls with Slingshots, XKCD, and I feel like there are a few more I check when I remember to, but can't think of now.   My witch, I think you can tell that I answer these bottom up, because I got a bit more interesting as I went this time.   9/17/10 Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd’s that you’ve been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Nope   Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? Does it work? If it works, I don't mind. If it doesn't work, um, my witch has a strange sense of humor. I really don't want the theme to be "hilariously sending you lots of broken things to see what happens". Just sayin'   Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Nope.   Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Sure, if my witch wants to make one. I wouldn't want one enough that it is worth tracking someone else down to make one, but would totally appreciate one from my witch. I think a custom altered item like that is special between maker and receiver. Not the same if it's not my witch.   Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Never tried them, but probably not.   Anne Taintor, anyone? Who?   9/16/10 If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? Wide and long, please!   Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? A rectangular shawl... with a hood!   How do you feel about recipes? I WANT TO HAVE THEIR BABIES. I also am particularly fond of Cook's Illustrated.   What kind of a cook/baker are you? The stressed kind. I stress-bake. But also! I just like cooking. I'm a cooker though, I read bunches of recipes then intuit the best plan of attack.   Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? Food Network will be asking my fiance and I to host. He will be temperamental and perfectionist. I will be sweet, but want to take shortcuts. OUR FOOD WILL CHANGE THE WORLD. Not herbal.     9/15/10 How do you feek about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? So... here's the thing. I love knick-knacks. I really, really do. But I'm moving in a year. And I hate moving. I'm a ruthless thrower-outer because I just... hate packing things. So while I like cute things, and totally collect lots of them, if you see something perfect send away...   Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? I second the Hunger Games, actually. Or fifth it or whatever. Otherwise, the Kindle has been the WORST enabler EVER in this area. Do not get one unless you want to accidentally spend all your money ever on books. "Oh, I wonder if this has a sequel? Oh, I'll just get them all... I mean, I'm going to do it eventually anyway..." Gah!   Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favourite? Would you like to receive managas or anything related to them? No, sorry.   Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Of course!   If you have something on a wishlist that we could craft INSTEAD of buying, though it might not end up identical to the wishlist thing, would it be okay to craft it instead? Obviously we don't want to copy anyone else's design, but if we can replicate the flavour or intent that you like without stepping on toes? CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. CRAFT. Or you could buy it, but my lists are really mostly a guideline of things I like, I fully welcome your crafting skills.   OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? Knee please!   How do people feel about word magnets. I have waaaaay too many.   If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? Holy crapoli, SO MANY. To make it easier, I'll just take all of Inara's clothing.   How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. That's cool to things that aren't perfume, but I really do my best to limit my perfume addiction to BPAL. Though certain enablers make that harder and harder.   What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I might test some things next weekend then figure it out. Nothing look a-maz-ing to me. It made me sad.   Chocolate or other types of candy? Chocolate forever!   For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? Loose leaf   If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? Oh god, a shawl with a hood? I'd love you forever. I tried one on this summer and only the price tag ($300) kept me from keeping it forever.   Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike?   Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? My kitchen is really fully stocked.   Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? Herbs usually. Thyme, we use a lot of thyme and rosemary. I like ivy around the house, lavender in the garden, and daisies. I love daisies. Oh and this one time, Daniel got me some purple, almost black calla lily type things. So beautiful.   More 9-13: Do you crave many Ecards and contact or are you okay with little contact from your Witch? I love contact. Contact me as much as you like. Wanna be a ninja? That's cool too.   Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? No, but the stuff on my WL is all the GC stuff I haven't tried that doesn't have a note of doom. Even if it didn't really sound super yums.   Do you like maple sugar candy? Not really.   What is your position on the chocolate & bacon flavor combination? No. Just no.   If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot? I am, but I have them. My mommy made them.   Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? Salt, pepper & cinnamon most likely.   Microsoft or Apple? Yes, both.   Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? My fiance and I went to Madison, WI because we didn't know anyone there. I liked driving in the car with him. And being alone with him -- we both live with housemates and I'm at school while he works, so we're 800 miles apart most of the time.   Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? Yes! I send them at times. For a while all my card swap cards were handmade postcards, but then I quit thinking I was finally moving up in the world to some nice, nice postcards only to find out that people actually liked the homemade ones.   Do you hate any food things with a passion?? Coriander. But I like cilantro. Weird, yeah? Also not hot on... I can't think. I'll try to come back to this later. Fake fruit flavors. Don't like those.   Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? I love trees. I still want physical magazines. I like flipping through them, tossing 'em in a thing and going, and also I like cutting things out of them (see: homemade postcards)   9/13/10 what interests you from the latest lab update? This is actually really horrible -- I got imps of everything I was into and none of it worked for me. I had such, such high hopes for Lamb's Wool and nothin'.   How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? Pens! I love pens! I like classic stuff. I also like nice paper. Pens and paper.   Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam?) Uh, yeah. Of course.   If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Love 'em.   Would you like something you have to make yourself? Wouldn't hate it, that's for sure. I like kits. With instructions.   Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? You should totally make it! It means more that way. I mean, buying is awesome, but making adds that little something extra.   Who is your favorite soap etailer? Savor, but I'm interested in Tarty's soaps.   What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? I collect tea cups with saucers. I'm sure I've mentioned it. I'm sure I have. Tea cups. But other vintage decoration items would be intriguing as well.   With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? I love gardening, but with the amount of moving I do, seeds are just not something that would work out. But the rest of that sounds lovely.   How do you feel about marzipan? I don't like nuts unless they are adding texture to a baked good. I really don't like almonds at all. These are lifelong issues of mine. But marzipan is connected to one of the funniest things my mom has ever done to me: My mom got me an almond flavored cake with marzipan instead of frosting for graduation. It wasn't easy to find -- she went to a LOT of trouble for it. So I rallied and ate a piece. It wasn't, you know, the worst day of my life but later (much later, polite distance later) when I was like, "Um, you know I've always hated nuts, right?" she said, "I know -- that's why I got you almonds! Almonds aren't nuts!"   If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Snow White (I had an imp, thought I didn't like it, frimped it, and then later started craving it -- worst frimping ever), Snake Charmer (some lovely lady frimped me this and I can't decide if I love her or hate her for it since I joined too late to be in on the res), some aged smut -- I have some from the 2010 round, but it just isn't the same as my aged imp.   Are there any international treats that you love and have a hard time finding? Studentska fruit and nut bars in milk chocolate from the Czech Republic. If you actually managed to find this, I'd probably want to marry you. I look for them EVERYWHERE, and they are SO. Good.   Is there anything from the 'Ween BPTP update that you would like but haven't ordered for yourself? Oh god, so much. I'm going to WCWC this month and I was hoping to smell things there and make decisions based on that. When I'm there, I'll be smelling SAGARDOA soap, JACK soap, and the Samhain, Autumn Grove, and New Orleans room sprays. Then I'll make some tough decisions. (Also SOBO, but that is not exactly the 'Ween update.)   If you are a crafter, would you like to receive supplies from your witch (beads, fabric, yarn/roving etc?) YES. I would take beads or fabric or roving or yarn. I just like making things with my hands, so I sew and knit and spin and bead.   Find your iPod (or other MP3 device), put it on shuffle/random. Or other brands scents? None -- I'm not really into scented candles. I'm pretty picky and a lot of scents give me headaches. The ones I have, I love (and if you happen to be in the Seattle area, the MarketSpice candles are to DIE for), but in general I'm iffy aobut scented candles. I also regularly go to Starbucks, not a big fan of B&N plus I have the Kindle not the Nook, so...   Other than that: Amazon.   Rambling: one of the most exciting things in my life right now is that I found a really old camera (http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Uniflex_II) at my local junk shop for $15. I took it home and cleaned it. Everything still works on it, even the -- they came with a cord that you pressed a button like a pen top and it took the photo, it's a kind of trigger and even that still works. I'm so excited to start experimenting with it. I love medium format stuff, it just looks so cool.   Cake or Frosting? CAKE! I've been known to make frostingless cupcakes. Or "frost" everything with whipped cream and then pretend I don't understand "what's wrong" with them.   9/9/10 What movie scared the bejeezus out of you as a child? Honey, I shrunk the kids I think is the one that I had to leave the theater during due to terror. My dad took me on an awesome exploration (walk around the area) while my sister stayed and watched the movie. I will go out of town several times, but my housemates are very good about taking in packages and mail. Frankly, I'm in my second year of an MBA program so I could end up leaving town a lot to travel to job fairs or interviews but those would only result in a one or two day delay in reporting on packages -- no worries in terms of someone being here, though. Someone always is.   Oh! And: brag, brag, brag, one of my conferences is in LA during Will Call!! I'm super, super excited. So... I'll be heading to WCWC THIS MONTH!   If you are in school now, what classes are you taking? Does anything you are currently studying really interest you? Daine, I think, from the Tortall books.   If you could go back to any point in time, where, when, why? The Victorian era. For the fashion. No deal if I can't be ridiculously well off, though. I don't want to go back and be a servant type in any part of history.   Favorite Halloween Candy/Treat? I dunno. Reese's pieces, I guess. I mean, really? Caramel covered apples.   What are your favorite baked goods/homemade treats? I like 'em up to my knees.   What is something you use to comfort yourself when feeling yucky, depressed, or in pain? Tea, but I have tons of it. A boozy drink. Good television -- Pushing Daisies or right now it would totally be Haven just because of the ending of the last episode I saw. (So, cheesy or downright bad TV.) Crafting. Calling my fiance on the phone.   Favorite Halloween/Scary movies/books: Hocus Pocus. I'm not into really scary things -- oh, though Cry_Wolf was an excellent movie and about my level of "scary" -- I like more cutesy Halloweenie things. Oh! Some "less extreme" horror values can really freak me out/bother me. Definitely better to stick to cute.   What would the name of your custom blend be? The description? orange-vanilla buttercream with just a touch of red musk (a touch!).   COMIC BOOKS. Do you read them? Are there any series you like, or some you would like to try? Yes! I like Sandman and Fables. I'm interested in Irredeemable. I'm not that far in Fables because I'm missing one of the earlier books! My mum skipped it on accident and I've been lazy about fixing that.   9/6/10 When you go to an etsy wishlist, it will tell you what things are sold. If you click on the sold item, sometimes it will give options that are similar to what was sold, but not identical, would you like the similar item or prefer not to get it at all unless it's the same item? How picky are you? Oh, I mostly put things on my etsy list or Amazon list as a "this is the kind of stuff I like" guide. So similar items would be lovely!   Do you wear make up? Not really, no. Sometimes for special occasions.   Disney movies, Yay or Nay, and favourites if you do like them? Yes. Oh, yes. Beauty and the Beast -- the original release, not the stupid new one with the stupid new song in the middle of my movie! Maybe we will this year, but it would be a house decision and those can get messy and strange.   Also, as part of the cute-or-creepy question, would you want hand made, molded, glazed (by yours truly!) ceramic decorations (napkin rings, potporri/tart warmers, etc) to add to your stock? Oh, absolutely!   how do you feel about mortars and pestles? 9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? NO. THE MEMORIES. THE HORROR. When I was in sixth grade we went to a garlic festival at an otherwise lovely dining establishment. Everything was over-garlicky, but my sister and I are all, "Well, at least there is dessert and that will be nom and not garlic." Vanilla ice cream with garlic honey sauce. First of all, it's the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. Second of all, I'm kind of scarred for life when it comes to "garlic" and "unusual".   Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? Generally, they are hilarious. I loved Zombieland after the first 15 minutes of too violent/gross for me. I'm such a girl that way. However the things like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? I ADORE them in concept. In execution, the author is so pitifully below Jane Austen's writing style and level that I can't actually stand to read them.   9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? I know you aren't asking me this, so I just take the chance to say <3 you!   How many bottles of BPAL do you have? Really? Really? Crap. 61. Many of which were acquired as (low level) partials and one of which makes me so sad, I actually don't like looking at it anymore (ask me about the FULL bottle of Snow Glass Apples that I spilled everywhere five seconds after getting it)   About 20 of them probably need to be sold or swapped off at this point. I just am so lazy in that respect. Hair combs with the long bits especially. I used to have an Oberon Designs haircomb that I LOVED, but it is lost to the sands of time now. I also like hair sticks, barrettes, I have really long hair -- I'll take about anything aimed at taming it.   Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? No kids. No problems.   In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Okay, seriously, a hooded shawl. But if not that, then gloves are divine. Especially if you leave the fingers off. I have a smart phone, so I like to muck about with it even in winter.   How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? Have fun with me!   Is there anything you want from the Violette Market update?   What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) I like them all. What I don't like is being overly warm. While I might enjoy various climates, I want to be comfortable in them. I'm overly warm to begin with, so this is kind of an issue.   What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? I don't really have a top ten -- I like foody scents and some resinous scents and some incensey scents. So vanilla, red musk, copper colored feathers -- the note from Hellgates of Ireland that I haven't come across again -- I do love that one... My favorite oils are probably Madame Moriarty, Midnight Kiss, Gypsy, and some of the other vanillas. Would you like a sugar skull decorated by your witch? Or do you like sugar skull stuff in general? How do you feel about shimmer?   Something lightly tinted, I think. Shimmer is great. I'm not a huge fan of lipgloss/lipstick/tinted balms, but just got in to making my own, so I am perfecting my recipe. If you have a recipe here, I'd love to try it since mine are still coming out harder than I'd like.   Are there any fancy/gourmet/special herbs or spices that you'd love to receive? ie: good quality vanilla or other extracts, vanilla beans, saffron, lavender, etc.   Well. If you want to send me a vanilla bean, I certainly wouldn't say no. I actually already have most extracts, saffron, lavender, what-have-you that I want and a revolving supply of vanilla beans. We are foodies here. And make our own vanilla extract. And use it amazingly fast. She made me a journal and sketched in it and it was lovely.   If you were able to get a vintage or prototype bottle from the upcoming West Coast Will Call, which one would you want? Cake Smash. Like half the world. Other than that, anything that particularly matched my favorite notes would be nice. I haven't looked up the ZYX123 style names for notes because I know I won't be there. Unless you are just down the street, however, that's not happening. PA is very anti-booze as a state. However, for the record, my favorites are bourbon, tequila, wine that isn't pinot noir or merlot, and black beer.   Steampunk inspired items? Yay or nay? Yay! But in a tasteful way.   Do you like amurigami dolls? Not really. There are better things to knit or crochet.   Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies - who wins? Which do you love most? Pirates. The pirates ship out to sea and let the ninjas deal with the zombies. They find a beautiful island and stay there. When they finally get bored and decide to wander back, the ninjas have won out over the zombies, but there are very few left. Pirates swiftly take control.   Do you like wearing things in your hair? If so, what kind (snap clips, scrunchie, headband, etc), how big & crazy (lowkey, bigger the better), and colors. So at the end of the last round, I actually woke up one day, called the salon, and chopped all my hair off. It's shoulder length now. I have all these great clippies for really long, thick hair, but they don't really work with short hair. So... anything that helps with short hair would be really nice.   Piercings? - ears?? - elsewhere? Ears. Nowhere else.   Chocolate. With stuff in it? Are you more a plain chocolate lover, a chocolate and normal items lover (normal items being nuts, fruit, caramel) or do you like weird stuff in your chocolate? Also that I tend to like older versions of the various stories when it comes to fairy tales. When I can, I'll look for older-than-Grimm ones because it's just kind of cool to see how they've changed and to look and see what Grimm-era folks found appropriate vs inappropriate to write. Winter Holiday Fun Swap

November 9th   Sooo. Yules. Those just happened. What are you interested in, Bunny?   I ordered three decants and to be honest, I'm not even that interested in them. I mean, enough to order them, but I would be shocked to find any bottle-wants. I am super excited about the trading post, though, and will be stalking oh, most of the Yule Candles. Okay, all but one of them.   Do you like coin purses?   No. I. Just. No. It's. No.   November 8th   Do you prefer dark or milk chocolate?   Depends on what's in it. Good milk chocolate is delightful, but Hersheys, for example, tastes like vomit to me. Dark chocolate is often a safer bet because I almost always like it except for cheap European dark chocolate which is oddly sweet half the time.     November 7th   What are your opinions on traditional holiday cookie flavorings? I'm thinking anise and cardamom in particular.   Nom.   Do you like artisan oils and vinegars?   Nom.   Bunny, could you use a 2012 calendar, and, if so, do you like big monthly ones or the page-a-day type?   My mum always gets me a calendar.   November 6th   Charity gifts?
